Went and Got My Own Answer! Casino 3%

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I wrote to C & A.

Here is the question I asked:

If I sit down at one of the tables in the Casino, and ask for $300.00 in chips, and use my sign and sail card, will you charge me a service fee of 3%.

A clear and simple question.

Here is my answer (cut and paste) from the e-mail reply.

Thank you for your email. We apologize for the delay in our response.

"Guests may purchase chips or slot tokens with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover or Diners Club credit card from the casino cashier. The maximum amount depends on the cardholders credit limitations. A 3% charge is added to those using a credit card, not SeaPass."

I have copied the e-mail and will bring it with me...We shall see!

Yeah, good luck with that.

Can't wait to read your report.

Has anyone ever gotten cash or chips on an ACTUAL Credit Card in the Casino? I was always under the impression, you had to put it on your Sea Pass ( which is usually attached to a Credit Card)!

Sounds to me either way you are using a Credit Card!:D Unless you back your Sea Pass card with cash! If thats the case, you have your own cash for the Casino anyways!:p :)

Very well put. Maybe the credit card move is just for super gamblers...:D

Use the sea pass not the credit card. If you use the credit card in the casino, it is like a cash advance, but if you use the sea pass, your credit card company doesn't know what you spent the money on. It is just like you made a purchase.....

Technically, that's true. But RCI is imposing it's own 3% fee on cash taken against a Sea Pass...

That used to be the case however it appears they changed their policy.

I asked two weeks ago on the Enchantment, and specifically said "gambling cash on my SeaPass". They said there would be a 3% charge.

I am leaving on the Serenade tomorrow, and I will ask again and post back.

In early September on the Explorer, if you took cash using your SeaPass a 3% charge was included. I think you can bring all the paper backup you want, but it won't change the charge. Sorry, but it is now company policy. Maybe bringing your email you can get someone fired for giving out bad info. Hope that doesn't happen.

LOL, if the said email came from FitzPatrick he probably won't lose his job as he has spewed a LOT of wrong information over the past two years.

This is a copy of email from C&A and it wasn't signed by Fitzpatrick.

No charge is added to guests who use their Seapass account.

Thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International.

In April on the VISION I was playing at a table and a guest got chips with their seapass card and the dealer told them they would be charged 3%.

On the Monarch in May a sign at the cashier cage said 3% charge.

I am going on NOTS next week............we'll see.

That is exactly why I will bring a copy of the e-mail with me!

And yes, although we do nto go until January, I will come back and share the "conversation."

Not that it's likely to help, but if I were you I would ask again within a week or two of when you travel. As it is, it would be pretty simple for them to just say that the policy changed in the meantime.

Wrong! I just got off Grandeur last Saturday and I used my Sea Pass card to get cash in the casino. There was a 3% charge! My account was backed up by my credit card. Are they trying to say that if my sea pass was backed up by cash there won't be a charge to get cash in the casino?

It's kind of scary that RCI can't get their story straight.

I have 3 emails from different customer service reps all saying no surcharge on the seapass. I also have an email from a ClubRoyale representative and she said all cash withdrawals on the seapass will incur a 3% fee even if I have obc. So I then went higher up and was contacted by the executive offices. They also said yes there would be a fee even with obc. That is really my primary issue, why should I pay 3% to get my obc out? They are not going to incur any charges from the cc companies if there is not a transaction on my card, so why are they charging me. I did tell them that 3 different customer service reps responded incorrectly and they were going to fix it. That was 2 weeks ago.

What was his response when you said why should I pay 3% to get out my own onboard credit.

I, for one, will no longer use the casino to pay 3% to get my own money to basically lose in their casino. Casino play will suffer if we all do not patronize them.

This can be resolved by going to the purser's desk.

No charge there to take out OBC.

Why do they charge you at the Casino? Because any seapass that is used in the casino for getting cash/chips gets charged the 3%.

It really doesn't matter how many e-mails you have....the ship management will have the final say...and quite frankly why are we going to hassle these people at the casino when they are just doing their job and we can get cash for our obc from the purser.
