belle907 Posted October 14, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2008 A birth certificate is fine for cruising only, for now.

msmayor Posted October 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 14, 2008 Be certain, however, that you are using his 'official' birth certificate with a raised seal and NOT the one from the hospital.
cherylandtk Posted October 14, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 14, 2008 Hi! We leave in 2 days and my TA told me my child could use his birth cert. to travel. The Disney CL website says u have to have a passport after 2007. Help!!!! I have asked my TA to confirm several times and I think I read that a birth cert. was ok in several other places! You misread the information, it says you need a passport after 2007 to re-enter BY AIR. You are re-entering by cruise ship. What proof of citizenship do I need to bring? In order to board the ship, all Guests are required to provide proper travel documentation. Guests unable to provide proof of citizenship will not be permitted to sail. All Guests claiming U.S. citizenship, including children, must present one of the following as proof of U.S. citizenship: Valid, unexpired U.S. passport. Original state issued Birth Certificate; additionally, Guests 18 years of age and older must present a photo ID issued by a Local, State or Federal Government agency. From http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/help/overview?name=PreparingForYourCruiseFAQLandingPage&bhcp=1#5 I agree with the above poster about making certain you are bringing a certified birth certificate, issued by a city/county/state. NOT the hospital.

Many states are now issuing birth certificates using new types of technology, some look like driver's license, some have holograms, etc. A raised seal is not an absolutely necessity anymore as it used to be.. ducklite Posted October 15, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 15, 2008 Bottom line if you can use the birth certificate to get a passport, it will work. If not, it won't. My birth certificate was a duplicate as the original didn't have a raised seal and was entirely in B&W. I got a new BC issued, and there is no raised seal, however there is a multicolored seal, and it worked fine to get my passport issued. My original birth certificate would not have been acceptable for cruise ship use. From http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html: A certified birth certificate has a registrar's raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar's office, which must be within 1 year of your birth. Please note that some short (abstract) versions of birth certificates may not be acceptable for passport purposes.
