Retired LEO Posted October 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2008 Look on the RCI site for Sovereign and what do you see? 1 more sailing. It will soon be removed from the web site. The only remnant remaining will be the Sovereign class with the Majesty and Monarch listed.
wrp96 Posted October 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2008 How sad. Sovereign was my first - the one that got me hooked on cruising and on RCCL.
AnotherCruisingKid Posted October 24, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2008 How sad. Sovereign was my first - the one that got me hooked on cruising and on RCCL. Same here. Hopefully I'll make the other two before they go away too.

temple1 Posted October 24, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2008 Yep - like many on here - my first also and if they kept her a little longer she would have been DH's first. Now his first will be on Monarch.

sicsinohio Posted October 24, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 24, 2008 I think Majesty will be around for awhile, since RCCL spent millions to completely refurbish her less than two years ago. She's a beautiful, classy lady in the true tradition of cruising. No specialty restaurants (other than Johnny Rockets), skating rinks or surfing simulators, but an easy relaxing ship with a great crew. I suspect she will be the only ship of her class within a couple years.
temple1 Posted October 24, 2008 #9 Share Posted October 24, 2008 I would really enjoy cruising on Majesty again. I don't want to go all the way to Miami for a 3 night cruise and the 4 nighter takes the same amount of work days as a 5 or 6 nighter although the itnerary is my favorite so far for a shorter cruise. wayb Posted October 24, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 24, 2008 Sovereign was our first cruise also. We are going on the monarch next month.
aurelius180 Posted October 24, 2008 #11 Share Posted October 24, 2008 I really hope they don't do away with the rest of the Sovereign class completely for a while. I know Oasis is supposed to be the future but I have no interest in these ships. I like to know I'm on a cruise! Majesty was my first and Enchantment second and I'm hesitant to go bigger for a while...
lcmslady Posted October 24, 2008 #12 Share Posted October 24, 2008 My first cruise was on Majesty and it is a great ship!! Not too big, not too small - just right. Easy to get around on, and all that good stuff. I haven't cruised on one of the larger ships but am really not interested. I don't need to rock climb or ice skate to have a great cruise - I just want to sit in a chair with a book and adult beverage and soak up the sunshine! I know it's not big but it is so easy to navigate and the Deck 5 area is great. The bars, casino, shops and lounges are all right there. At night it's like it's own little city with every dressed up walking around.... :)
critterchick Posted October 24, 2008 #14 Share Posted October 24, 2008 I know how you all feel. Our first cruise (not counting DH's Naval career) was on the then-Nordic Empress, who left the fleet in April. Monarch became our weekend home for a couple of years and now the East Coast will have her for a year or two - we may have to visit her!

The millions RCCL spent will not be wasted if she moves, she will be transferred to Pullmanter, another division of RCCL, so the money will stay in house.:D
bigpuma Posted October 24, 2008 #16 Share Posted October 24, 2008 Sovereign was also my first RCI cruise and as the saying goes "you never forget your first". The first cruise ship I went on was the Viking Serenade. To that ship I say good riddance. :D

wolfcathorse Posted October 25, 2008 #18 Share Posted October 25, 2008 My only comfort is that she's not being sent to the boneyard. She'll sail on, bringing joy to others.

FOXTROT Posted October 25, 2008 #20 Share Posted October 25, 2008 The Sovereign was our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 16th & 25th cruise. It had a very warm place for us. Until the last time aboard, after that good riddance.
wolfcathorse Posted October 25, 2008 #21 Share Posted October 25, 2008 Capt Rune on Sovereign did tell us at the C & A plat/dia/dia+ reception that Majesty is sold (our cabin steward told us the same thing last Feb) and will be transferred to either TUI or Pullmantaur in 2010(?), he wasn't sure of the year. He said Monarch is also going, to one of the 3 RCI subsidiaries (Pullmantur, TUI, or a French company?). So by 2012, the Sovereign class is GONE...
