hammybee Posted October 31, 2008 #76 Share Posted October 31, 2008 It's often joked about, but the fact is you could actually live aboard a cruise ship (in low category cabin) for less than you would pay to live in a senior assisted living home. And it would be a lot more pleasant!:) We have, over the years, met a few couples who wintered on cruise ships and claimed to pay about $25 p/p, per day. They worked out of FLL and MIA and did not care what cruise line, ship or cabin they received. They only occasionally needed to book an overnight hotel room, between ships. One couple had a spread sheet of their future cruises with a few gaps and knew that their local TA would find them something to fill those gaps, the closer it got to the departure date. It was a new adventure for them, each and every week, at a price that could not be beat

It would be fun to work the figures as to how much a second home in FLL would cost for snowbirds. To have their winter condo, car either transported down for them, rented or own one that is left in FLL, groceries, utilities etc etc......... It is very possible it costs less to go from ship to ship.
