cruiseri Posted November 9, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 9, 2008 Can someone explain the differences between the two designation-GTY and Confirmed? I was "confirmed" with a specific cabin number in the class I requested. I then noticed that higher class designations were now available (i.e. not on waitlist) so I called my TA to upgrade (paying the difference in class). I now notice on my booking that I am "GTY" (in the higher class) but with no cabin number. While I'm sure all is okay, just wondering what the difference is. Thanks for the clarification. Tatka Posted November 9, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2008 GTY is the best cabin available in particular category.. Of course best is a subjective term... you might or might not like the location. They must provide an upgrade if there are no cabins left in this cat. travelntreats Posted November 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 9, 2008 GTY means that you are Guaranteed at minimum, a stateroom in that category booked with possibility of a free upgrade as well. Keeping in mind that being booked as a GTY, you stateroom assignment is at the discretion of the cruiseline which could work to your favor or give you a less than desireable location. It's the roll of the dice and if a passenger is not comfortable with the possibility of a less than positive outcome of the GTY scenario...... they should not even consider this option or method of booking. Treven Posted November 9, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2008 As has been posted in multiple threads, an "upgrade" by the cruiseline is not always an upgrade to the passenger.
