Perks for suites?

Just my 2-cents...some of the best meals we had while on the ship were at Cagney's for lunch. And yes the menu changed daily, which kept it interesting. It's also a nice time to become friendly and get-to-know some of the waitstaff, as it's a lot less of a busy time for them (at least that is what they told us). Can't wait to eat there again!

Greetings,

Jan 3 09 cruise on the Star, last time in the AB suite (18 months ago) no cap/expresso maker. Does anyone know or could help if NCL has made that wonderful addition to the Star?

Counting the days for the week of luxury!!

I am thinking about moving from a balcony to a AF, I am wondering what definte perks are included and If i can justify the price jump. I have read alot of the boards but am a bit confused with different responses that have been given. Any info would be great. thanks:) Also any recent pics from the pearl would be fabulous.

If you get some different responses, it may be because some of the perks have changed recently and maybe the person wasn't aware of it. When I booked my Feb 09 cruise on the Dawn back in May, it showed that Suites got a "complimentary" bottle of champagne on embarkation day plus canapes everynight in your suite. Now I've noticed that since they updated the NCL website, for suites it shows that you get "Hors d’oeuvres" twice during the course of your cruise and it doesn't mention the champagne. It also doesn't say anything about priority tendering which you got with suites before (but you still get priority embarkation and disembarkation). Yeah, some of those are not a big deal, but its one of those things where you book and then you find things aren't exactly like you thought they would be. We are actually in the AD suite which isn't much different at all from the AF minisuites. But there is a huge price jump from one to the other simply because of the suite perks you get and that's what we were willing to pay extra for. I'm glad I noticed that on the website before getting on the ship still expecting those things. Now I'm not sure what all we should expect so I'll need to call NCL to find out and determine if it is still worth keeping the AD suite.

If this is true, it is a VERY recent developement. We were just on the Pearl three weeks ago and in an AE and had full suite perks. Can you post the link to the webpage you are seeing this on? I just looked up Freestyle 2.0 and it still shows suites get a canape tray daily and it still shows the bottle of champagne as being a suite perk for 2.0.

Actually, I don't think much has changed, but with the website changing it makes things a little confusing. I just went to www.ncl.com. Then I clicked "Ships" and then "Dawn". Then in the window that comes up, I clicked the very bottom link which says "learn more about suites and villas". Then the next window gives you a choice to click "suites", "penthouses", etc. First I clicked "suites" and the pictures move through and the Dawn AD romance suite is shown there. Under VIP Extras, it says "hor'doeuvres delivered twice during the cruise". It doesn't mention the champagne or sparkling wine, or priority tendering. HOWEVER, then if you click on "penthouses", it actually shows a picture of the AD romance suite but the caption says "Norwegian Dawn -Penthouse". Now on that page under "VIP Arrival", it shows sparkling wine, gourmet hor'doeuvres and bottled water. But, once again if you look down under VIP extras, it says "hor'doeuvres delivered twice during the cruise". Obviously, the hor'doeuvres or canapes are not a big deal since you have an upgraded suite menu that you can order room service from 24 hours a day. I just want to be clear on what to expect and what I'm entitled to so I don't feel silly asking why we didn't get something. On that page, it does clearly say at the bottom that priority tendering is included.

But, I just called NCL to be sure and the lady I spoke with specifically looked up the AD romance suite on the Dawn and said it was indeed considered a penthouse. So we get the priority embarkation, disembarkation and priority tendering. She actually went through the perks listed for the Dawn AD suite for me and they were as follows:

Escort to your suite at embarkation, priority tendering and disembarkation, Metallic key card that is different than non-suites, 1/2 bottle French Champagne in room at embarkation, Floral arrangement, Fruit bowl (with menu so you can choose what fruit you like), 1 Bottle of Spring Water, upgraded toiletries and bath products, Butler & Concierge service, VIP only at the STAR BAR Day Lounge on deck 13, Cagneys breakfast and lunch, Deluxe Chocolates on pillows at Turn Down, Pillow Choice, DVD with CD player, IPOD cable, Lavazza coffee/cappucino maker, full breakfast menu, 24 hour room service from the suite menu which includes anything from any restaurant, fresh baked cookies at turn down on last night of cruise and delivery from the sweet treat menu each day. So even though you may not get canapes every day, it looks like you get a sweet treat everyday.

So, it looks like the perks have not changed much at all, and more than anything its probably the website that isn't completely consistent and may not clearly state everthing. It almost makes it look like different levels of suites get different levels of perks but I don't necessarily think that is the case until you start getting into the garden villas and courtyard villas. It's kind of funny because under Garden villas it says "hor 'doeuvres served nightly", but under Courtyard villas it says "hor'doeuvres served once during cruise".

Carib - you will love the perks! We sailed Dawn in an AD in June and had the same suite perks that we've enjoyed in an AB (Dawn) and an A3 (Pearl). The butler service alone is more than enough reason to book an AE or above suite!

Enjoy..........

We actually got tired of the canapes every day and ended up canceling them in our AD. Yes, half bottle of champagne (which we saved for our final breakfast with friends) and all the rest.

Also, the AD's & AE's are definitely different in floorplan from an AF. Lots more room to move around.

I give you snaps for finding it. I bet I spent at least 45 minutes doing searches, looking every where I could think of, trying to find the suite perks on NCL this morning when I read your post and I couldn't find anything. I LOVE NCL, but they have the worst website in the industry to me.

Actually this will be our first cruise ever and we knew after looking at all the cruiselines that NCL was for us. We're so excited about having an AD on the Dawn. We can't wait. Everyone says that starting with a suite, we'll never be able to go down to anything less. But I'm ok with that, REALLY!!!:D:D.

Terry, I really do appreciate you asking me about it because it made me look even closer at the website and I found that different pages gave different info. When I called NCL, even the representative had to go check about some of the perks. I was so happy to find out that very little had changed. Like I said, the canapes or hor'doeuvres are not a huge deal to us but the whole idea of being pampered all week is very nice and I have to say, those added little touches like flowers and fruit and chocolate covered strawberries just seem like they will make it all even better:). Don't ever be afraid to question something that doesn't seem correct because you're just helping everyone by making sure we're all well informed. Thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...
If it is like the bathtubs on Disney and HAL, they are dinky. They are not as big as the bath tub you have in your second bathroom-you know the kid's bathroom. I even find those small now, since we have a garden tub in our master bath at home.

So I still showered, on Disney and HAL, but it was nice to sit on the side of the tub and shave.

We are in a AF minisuite also-so I suppose this is the smaller tub? not the size of your second bathroom at home? Anyone know? I guess it really does not matter-as it won't be my garden tub at home. LOL!

Update-our bathtub on the Pearl was bigger than the bath tubs we had on Hal and Disney. So Nice!

What is considered a "suite" and what is considered a "penthouse".

We are booked on the Pearl for next May and I was under the impression the "AE" was a penthouse and would get the extras mentioned above. I'm not so sure now?

What you have is an AE Penthouse Suite. There are different types of full suites (some are not available on all ships): Various levels of Penthouse Suites (typically AE, AD--also often listed as "Romance Suite"--AC, AB), Owner's Suite, Deluxe Owner's Suite, and the Villas (Courtyard Villas and Garden Villa).

A "suite" is distinguished from a "mini-suite" in that the full suites have a variety of perks and different amenities. Mini-suites are glorified balcony cabins that do not receive "suite perks."

So, you are in a Suite that is a Penthouse category.

From what I have read here, it sounds like our deluxe balcony we had on HAL and a regualr balcony we had on Disney. Both those lines give you a bath tub and a curtain to speerate the room-not that that truly gives you privacy. (the curtain)

The only true plus I see in a NCL minisuite is the actual balcony is a little larger, and the room itself is a little larger. On HAL and Disney, the balconies were around the same size as a balcony in the regular balcony rooms of most lines. You know, not wide enough for a lounger.

Next Sunday we are in a minisuite on the Pearl, so I guess I will get to see for myself.

Our minusuite was nicer then the HAL deluxe veranda. More room! We could go out on the balcony even when the sofa was made out for our daughter's bed and the bathtub was considerably bigger. We also liked the toilet having a little alcove and door. One of us could use the bathroom while another was brushing their teeth.

Now our balcony was slightly wider, but no longer then the usual balcony room.
