What to do in San Juan (day stop)

Recommended Posts

Hi!!

I have been to San Juan on 3 cruises (all late afternoon stops). It did not appeal to me. We will be on the Navigator this August for a day stop....Any suggestions??? Is their a beach we can go to??? I was thinking about the Rain Forest, but it is 3 hours on the bus and 1 hour in the rain forest, not my type of a tour....

I've been to SJU several times and the last couple, we just stay on the ship and relax. We've done the usual rum and fort tours. We also did the rain forest tour and liked it. I don't remember the drive being 3 hrs though. Are you sure about that amount of time?

Cathy:

We have stopped there twice, both times for most of the day. The first time, we just walked around and shopped and checked out a few historical sites. That was fun. (we thought the shopping was good)

The second time, we did the Mountain Bike Trek. LOVED LOVED LOVED it!

Cathy there is a beach near the Embassy suites and plenty of cabs . there should be others but I have only been to that one. Have someone stay on land and watch your belongings. In that area they grow feet. Stay on the ship or enjoy the casino in the hotel across from the pier. See you on board Ken

Hi Cathy- We sailed on the Brilliance in Jan04 and first stop was San Juan. We took the El Younque Rainforest tour and really enjoyed that. There is about a 15-minute stop enroute to use restrooms at little roadside "strip-mall." During the afternoon our gals shopped in old town San Juan and us guys caught the FREE tram to the El Morro Castle and Fort (about 15 minutes thru the crowded narrow streets of San Juan). You could spend all day there. It is run by the National Park Service and there is an entrance fee ($3.00/person, if I remember), but that is a HUGE fortress, great place to take pictures, and well restored.

Here is a link to some pics I took on that cruise: http://www.pbase.com/cbcloud/caribbeancruise
