How are Carnival's 1A cabins

I will be traveling alone on my first cruise.

The savings is appealing, but how small and confining will it be?

Our son will be in one in January - it will have 2 portholes which is nice. Apparently the room configuration can be quite different, on different ships. But, I've heard some really good things about 1A's and the pictures look like they are great cabins.

It depends on which ship you are talking about. If its Fantasy class, they are all insides with bunk beds, kinda uck. If its Conquest class then some have a sleeper sofa and port holes.

 

If you tell us which ship, we can probably tell you what to expect.

I have cruised a 1A on the Elation, and on the Conquest. I find that if you are alone, it is a perfect size. Actually, I think it was probably a tad larger than my hotel room in Rome...lol.

 

Seriously, if it is an "upper/lower", the upper bunk will be in the "up" position, so you will not even notice it. i had plenty of floor space and storage, closets, etc. I have booked a 1A for 2 upcoming cruises....(but treated myself to a balcony for Alaska). I have no complaints about the size or location of the 1A (so far), and find that I would much rather spend the money on other things such as excursions, casino or beverages.

Best way for a Solo to save money (if you don't care where you wind up on the ship) is to book a 1A GTY. :) Only 1 time did I actually get a 1A....but they also gave me VIP Boarding (no...not my platinum cruise...I think it was just the location of the cabin 2201 on the Liberty). Best I got was an outside obstructed on the Legend.

We had booked a 1A on Carnival Triumph for 2nd week of B2B. Our 1st steward said if we got one he would get us a roll away. We had said we would just take the top matress and put it on the floor. There is plenty of room to do this. As it turned out we got a regular inside cabin- (we perfer insides) on our favorite deck, 9, where our 1st week cabin was. Carnival has good size cabins. Oh, we didn't book a specific cabin just the catagory. They like always having a cheaper cabin available so will bump you up. I didn't know thay had bunk cabins on deck 9 but they do.

It's been a while since we've cruised with Carnival, but I think you can request a bed extension. As far as I know, all of the beds are the same length.

 

I hope someone who's had more experience will post with more info!

I don't know where you're pricing your cruise, but the site I refer to shows only $100 more for an oceanview guarantee (instead of inside guarantee) on Valor for Dec 14 for a solo.

 

I'm not as tall as you, but I wouldn't like a single bunk, either. To me, it would be worth $100 for the peace of mind of knowing I was going to get a queen bed.

At first I didn't like it...but after I figured out to just move the big bolsters on the couch to make a back rest and watch TV...I LOVED IT :D

It was like having my own little apartment.

 

Another plus was that the lght that usually glows in under the door and through the peephole wasn't in my face while I slept....it was really nice and dark.

 

Only drawback was the LONG walk to get to dinner.....wait, maybe that was a plus since I walked dinner off :eek:

True, but if you're in it alone, you can sleep on the diagonal and get the extra length....

I loved my Carnival 1A on Ecstasy. I just wasn't wild about its location - first one on a center hallway, so it was close enough to the elevator bank to hear "ding, ding" all night long until I figured out how to crank up the air circulator to make white noise to block out exterior sounds.

It had the biggest bathroom of any cabin I've had on any cruise ship!
