Celebrity 6:5 Blackjack a Ripoff

I realize that other players don't affect the game taken as a whole, but when you see the guy at 3rd base take the dealer's bust card three times in a row--and not even realize what they have done--THAT'S when I leave--if I last that long!

I would much rather take my chances with people who at least understand the game, even if I lose, than play with people who don't get it. I agree that everyone has to learn--and if people get up and walk away from your table on a consistent basis, maybe you realize you are doing something wrong! When my ex-DH and I first started playing table games (at 21 and 1 day old), we read a couple of books. Whether we win or lose, at least we aren't pissing off other people at the table!

My favorite gambling story was when we spent X-mas at the MGM Grand. I was in a phase where I played stud poker. A group of entertainment lawyers from LA were at the table, and thought they were pretty darn big stuff. I was dismissed as a token woman at the table; when I drew 4 10's they were a bit miffed. But 4 hands later, when I drew 4 ducks, they were furious and got up and stormed off! I loved it!

I don't miss ex-DH a bit, but I do miss gambling!!

What I find much more irritating are people who need to tell other players what to do, or blame others for their losing hand, or for stopping the dealer from busting, or try to "teach" me.

I would guess that I'm more knowledgeable about the game than 99% of the people that I see at my table, but sometimes I may make a play that deviates from the basic strategy. For example, sometimes when you're counting cards, it is correct to hit a hard 12 or hard 13 when the dealer has a bust card. Sometimes it is correct stand on a hard 16 when the dealer has a 10 showing. There was a time that I was playing third base and I correctly hit a hard 12, but ended up taking a dealers bust card. One guy needed to yell "hey, whatta ya doin?!?! She's gotta bust card!! Then he mumbled something under his breath.

Obviously I can't stop and explain that I'm counting cards, and with the count at -8, the correct strategy is to hit because it is unlikely that I would bust, and it is unlikely that the dealer will bust. But I had the last laugh. I eventually left the table as a winner, and the other know-it-all player is sure to lose over the long run.

The bottom line is that other players cards in no way affect your play. Just watch your own cards, and don't worry about the other players.

I agree. Who cares what other people do? Half the time it benefits you, so why complain? Take the bad with the good or play higher stakes where there are fewer novices.

If people didn't play so badly the house would have to change the game to skew it even more in their favour

How sad that it does not seem to have occurred to all of you who were obviously born with an Ace and a Face in your hand that there are those of us for whom table games are just a passing fancy.

There seems to be a lot of anger in this thread, some of you might want to consider calling that 800 number that casinos post...

When I play Blackjack..and I have played alot...it is always amusing to see novices at the table make seemingly "bonehead" mistakes.

However, knowing that each hand is statistically independent, and that whatever cards they take or don't take, does not change the odds of my getting a winning hand, I just chuckle to myself and continue to play.

By the way, whatever the payout on a Blackjack, I still will play the game because it is the only game besides poker that is a thinking man's game, and takes some skill.

one question Ive always wondered about is who regulates the onboard casions. In las vegas you have the gaming commission. How do you know your getting a fair game. Are the cruise lines under any rules. And if they are who protects the gambler while they are at sea. Slots can be set blackjack can be fooled around with. Dice can be changed. In the greed of the cruise lines a lot of these things can happen. What payouts do they have to abide by on the slots. We all know slots can be set to pay out more or less. In las vegas the gaming commission can come in and they do take the programs out of the machines to see there following the gaming commission rules. If anyone has any input on this subject please respond.

My only problem with people who don't know the optimal blackjack strategy is that they usually win while I'm losing.

Amen to that.

While were talking blackjack, does anyone know what kind of shufflers they use on Solstice.

I prefer hand shuffling of course, and find that the shufflers which mix a separate 6-8 deck shoe during play are OK. I really am not happy with continual shufflers, although I believe the Wizard of Odds says that they are a slight advantage to the player.
