cruise junky joan Posted December 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 22, 2008 Has anyone been able to book a Med. cruise after the final payments have come due? I want to book a balcony cabing for a b2b cruise next September but the ship is sold out. Has anyone had any luck with this?
Rare LHT28 Posted December 22, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 22, 2008 Does the cruise line have a waitlist option? I would try that but things do happen and you may get a cabin.
eh2zed Posted December 22, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 22, 2008 Things can happen. There can be cabins on option. But its a bit of a crapshoot
texancruzer Posted December 22, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 22, 2008 Many times there will be quite a few people change to another cruise or cancel all together just prior to final payment. Last year we did just that. We had a Jan 08 cruise booked and then due to dh schedule we changed to a Mediterranean cruise in Nov. 07. It was only 8 weeks out. You will be taking a chance but if it works out you will get a really good deal :D They will lower the prices rock-bottom in order to fill the empty cabins. We paid $899.00 per person for the highest category balcony cabin for a 9 night cruise. Rome, Naples, Dubrovnik, Corfu, Livorno, Villefranche, Toulon and ending in Barcelona. This was the last cruise prior to the ship returning to the Caribbean for the winter. You also may not be able to get a balcony cabin.....would you settle for an oceanview if thats all there was ???? You will need to be somewhat flexible. This year we almost booked another late Nov. cruise and they had a huge sale. Oceanview $699.00 for the first person and second person half price (thats $350.00 !) for an 11 night cruise. Thats $1050.00 !!!!! Airfare will be an unknown however.....we got lucky. $ 800.00 pp round trip. This was a good price as we have to first fly to either Houston or Dallas first to get anywhere  And we were able to use rewards points from American Express for most of it. Hope it works out for you !
CintiPam Posted December 22, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 22, 2008 We booked a cruise on Oceania in late May this year for a September 5 departure, because we had received the 2009 brochure and my husband did not want to wait (a good decision in view of our investment portfolio status now!). It was our first cruise ever. We went on a wait list for the lowest four categories of cabins (all except an inside cabin because we wanted natural light) and we were wait-listed for a week, then got a cabin on the lowest category we said we would take. We never moved up the list enough to get a balcony cabin. However, it turned out to be a fantastic trip; with an very intensive port itineray, we never missed the balcony. Good luck!
