Krazy Kruizers Posted November 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2004 The cost is sill $50 per person. You select whatever night you wish to do the wine tasting dinner - just give the Pinnacle 24 hours notice. Since you choose your own evening we have no idea if anyone actually did partake of the wine tasting dinner. We didn't. Once we looked over the wine offerings, we felt it wasn't worth the price. All cheap wines. (1)Amuse --- served with Domaine Ste Michele Cuvee Brut (2)Smoked Salmon Tartare with Grilled Asparagus Wasabie Sabayon --- wine - Chateau Ste Michele, Sauvignon Blanc, Horseheaven, Columbia Valley (3)Butternut Squash Soup Carmelized Apple & Fried Sage --- wine - McCrea, Syrah, Walla Walla (4)Pinnacle Grille Filet of Beef & Medallion of Lamb --- wine - Northstar Merlot, Walla Walla OR Diver Scallops & Seared Tuna Medallion --- wine - Columbia Crest Grand Estate Chardonnay, Columbia Valley (The original wine tasting we went to on the Maasdam didn't have Tuna - we had Salmon.) (5)The Praline Crunch - layered with chocolate & cappuccino mousse --- wine - Chateau Ste Michele, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cold Creek (6)Assorted Cheeses --- wine - Whidbey's Port

Krazy Kruizers Posted November 10, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted November 10, 2004 That's the wine they had listed. So I can only assume that they actually served it. Maybe someone will point out their error in choice of wines? Doubt if anyone in the Pinnacle caught that 'poor' choice of wine. I just copied down the menu and wines. garydm Posted November 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 10, 2004 While I am far from a wine authority, most of these are in the $8-9 price range and would hardly merit being singled out for a special wine dinner. Another lost opportunity by HAL. Gary
Krazy Kruizers Posted November 11, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted November 11, 2004 Now you know why we decided not to do the special wine dinner. As I mentioned, the wines were in the cheap category in our opinion and as a result we didn't think the meal was worth the price - $20 per person for the meal and $30 per person for 5 glasses of wine. sail7seas Posted November 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2004 What a disappointment. I remember previous post KK where you indicated what a pleasant time you had at a wine tasting dinner on a different ship. The wine choices for this special dinner are uninspired and very moderate priced wines. We would not have chosen to partake of that dinner either, I am very sure. Santa Fe Jim Posted November 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 11, 2004 I was planning on participating on the Zaandam next week, but if the selections are similar, I'll pass also. It appears that HAL is promoting their home state wineries.:( SFJ
Krazy Kruizers Posted November 11, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted November 11, 2004 SFJ If the wine tasting dinner isn't posted outside the Pinnacle, just ask to see a copy of it before you decide it is worth the money.
Krazy Kruizers Posted November 11, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted November 11, 2004 s7s It was on our May Maasdam cruise that 31 of us attended the wine dinner. It is too bad that HAL cheapened it.
sail7seas Posted November 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted November 11, 2004 Maybe with any luck, Maasdam may still be running it nicely. We are planning to 'look into it' during our b-to-b's on Maasdam in June. Maybe we'll investigage it in January on Veendam???
Krazy Kruizers Posted November 11, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted November 11, 2004 We are also going to look into the dinner on our up-coming cruises as well. The wine choices will be the deciding factor.
