Woman missing on the Pearl

I agree I would be devastated to say the least.

I dont believe he was heading to the casino with a "bag of quarters". like someone else quoted, casino slots dont take or payout coins anymore.

If it is true, no one mentioned "When" the husband was heading to the casino, could have been before the incident.

--Also the party in the room directly under them stated "8pm a girl was yelling, dont hit me", how come he was able to hear that but not the poor woman jump!. I believe it stated the incident happened approx 8pm. Only way I find he could have heard comments was if he was on the balcony and both balcony cabin doors were open-- If that were the case, he would have seen or heard her hit the water.

Someone also commented about the chair next to the balcony railing, husband/mom wouldnt see that unless he went out there, the room stewards close the curtains at night.

-These rumors are disgusting, that poor woman obviously took her own life , I sympathize with her family. Im certain the FBI already knows the whereabouts of the Mom, Husband and has the video of the leap off the balcony.

To take your own life like that, you obviously are suffering from some major mental issues.

My prayers go out to the family..

How sad!

I missed this...where did you read it? Thanks!

I posted on another thread that on Christmas Eve night we had our beloved cat, Madelyn, put to sleep. This was quick and unexpected. She was my "child" for 16 years. If you have a problem with the fact that I loved her as I would love a child, I don't care. It is how I was with her.

I'm so sorry to hear about losing your pet. :( It is heartbreaking. I had to have my cat (Sir Drizzet de Furfoot Meowington Ba-Boy) put down on my 29th birthday. I cried for days and I was very distraught. It's been 11 years and I still miss him. Not everyone understands that your pets are your best friend and your children.

I'm not the one who said he was headed to the casino. The AP news story stated that. A passenger was quoted as seeing and speaking to the husband in the hallway as he (the husband) went to the casino with a bag of money-the day after she was missing.

No, I've never had a husband disappear off a cruise ship, but I do know, without a doubt that I wouldn't head to the casino the next day. As some have stated, people deal with grief and dispair in different ways. I can assure anyone here that I would definitely not be headed to the casino or the theater to catch the show after such an incident. It's not in my nature. I would be hysterical.

I don't think the husband had anything to do with it. I think he just didn't care...very much. If the woman had the long standing mental health issues as the family reported, then I'm guessing he was worn down by her problems and was probably relieved she ended it...it's sad to say.

Interesting discussion...........made me realize how quick I was to judge the husband for going to the casino - he may have been told to stay out of the cabin for a while - and not to talk to other guests about the event. Made me think - where would I go? I would not want to go to a bar - too much chance of drinking too much. Also, he was on the Almost Newlywed Game - so someone could have easily recognized him and tried to start a converstation. Most the on board activities would be "wrong" too. Sometimes chairs (especially on sea days) are hard to find if you would prefer privacy.

There's a chance someone would decide to go to the casino and sit in front of the slot machines - there is noise and activity, but actually there is relative privacy. Not saying that this is what happened, but I can see where an innocent person might decide to do this. The comment that he was hoping to change his luck could have meant anything - especially if he was distraught since everyone reacts to death differently.

Just a thought. My sympathy goes out to the family.

On Fox this morning they had a passenger on live who reported that a couple across from their cabin heard screaming then silence but did not think anything of it. You know how rumors are though. To wait 8 hrs to report her missing is suspicious in itself. I guess that gives enough time to make sure her being recovered alive is impossible.

Very sad indeed.

I just feel horrible knowing what she went through.

Laura

I don't necessarily agree that it being 8 hrs after the video shows her "falling" makes the husband seem suspicious for reporting it then. My DH and I on a few cruises have not been ready to turn in for the evening at the same time so I will go back to the cabin and he stays out for a bit. For argument sake say I'm not in the cabin when he returns he may just think I am wondering the ship ( which I do sometimes late at night if I can't sleep) and fall asleep himself only to wake up hours later to find I'm not there and start looking for me, when he can't find me he reports it to the ships officials. Now I do not know the particulars of this case yet I just don't think him reporting it at 4 or 5am is reason enough to suspect him of murder

Well considering her own family has released a statement saying they think it was suicide (based on her past mental issues) I think that really helps sums things up.

Sad.

Oh, now you're going to make me cry...

Maybe he brought the quarters from home not knowing that the slot machines wouldn't take them. Maybe he brought it to the cashier cage and got cash for his bag of quarters.

interesting thought. I brought a bunch of quarters on board one time (not a bag), but I was stopped at security and they went through my entire bag. I wonder if they were stopped.

I didnt know they didnt take cash either. We were given a paper ticket when I was on the Pearl and I inserted it to each machine and when done, it printed another paper ticket with my balance. Ever seen a $.05 ticket? Yup...thats what i left with...fortunately for me, I only started with $20 and played on it all week. Not bad.

and then things would have been really messed up. I can hear it now "my mommas friends cousin said that they were fighting?" or "my dads uncles friend said he hit her?" or "I heard he pulled her hair and my aunts friend saw it"

why should NCL tell anyone? It was either a suicide or a homicide and if it was a homicide, it wasn't a random murderer walking into cabins pushing people over the balcony.

If you are staying at the Holiday Inn and a woman commits suicide, should the front desk call every room and tell them? I think NCL did what they are supposed to do in a case like this. They can risk being sued for slander (if they say she jumped and she didn't and vice versa) and then someone sue happy person will sue them for announcing it to the pax and traumatizing them. It's a no win situation and best to keep it quiet.

OMG I really REALLY love this answer! Thanks for the smile and the common sense.

When my father died, like 8 years ago I was devistated.:(

But, I do remember at one point, my sisters and I went to a resturant and laughed and giggled like crazy. It was one of the best times we have every had together!

People handle grief in different ways.

I don't think anyone should judge the way another person chooses to handle a situation. Unless he turns out to be guilty of something:o.

He didn't have HIS family around him to lean on, at all. Just her mother who was dealing with her own loss, in her own way as well. So yeah, I could see going to the casino to try and "forget" what was happening.

All of the casinos here do TITO (ticket in ticket out) and I was on a multiline nickel slot and when I finished I had 3 cents left and had to cash out. lol

I really don't see ANY family even offering the hint of a suggestion that their family member would commit suicide unless they had real reason to do so.

I agree 100%. I seriously doubt the family would make a statement that suggests she committed suicide unless they really believed that is what most likely happened.

I agree with you on this. My dad died several years ago; my mom and my sisters and I went to the mall the next day. Despite being native New Yorkers, only I had enough black clothing to last the days of the wake and the funeral. There we sat in the food court, each of us wearing sunglasses to hide swollen eyes, alternatvely laughing and crying as we talked about my dad. Perhaps someone on the outside looking in would have judged us harshly. Personally, I would not have cared what they thought.

Anyway, no one knows what was going on in this guy's mind. And I have to add that I really have a problem with people who seem to insinuate themselves in situations such as these. I'm referring to the couple who was interviewed on the morning program. Someone who posted earlier mentioned that they were looking for their 15 minutes and ITA. Their responsibility began and ended with providing whatever they thought they knew to the proper authorities. Anything beyond that is just self-aggrandizement. JMHO.
