Towels for the beach provided by the ship, or do we need to bring them?

When you are docked somewhere and want to go to the beach or on an excursion, do you bring towels from the room, somewhere else in the ship, or bring your own towels? Does it matter if you are on an excursion or not, as to whether you can bring the ship's towels? Thanks.

On our first cruise, on the Grandeur of the Seas, the pool towels were beige, and our steward did leave them in our stateroom when we asked.

 

On our most recent cruise, on Liberty of the Seas, they had changed the pool towels to two-sided ones, one side white with navy trim, the other navy with white trim. You had to get those at the towel station by the pool, using your seapass card. Any that were not turned in by the end of the cruise cost $20, charged to your account. Of course you could switch for dry ones at any time.
