Currency for tipping and shopping in Turkey

Is it necessary to buy Turkish currency? or can either US dollars or Euros be used? If so, which are preferred?

You can easily use USA currency in Turkey for tips and for shopping.

 

If you find prices in other currencies and are bargaining for an item quickly have them convert it into USA dollars before you start to negotiate for an item if that is what you plan to pay in.

 

You can also use Euros but if you are from the USA I would just use USA currency.

You would only need Turkish lira for public transportation and for some museums/sites that charge admission and don't take credit cards, in my experience.
