Greetings all.

 

Well, it's almost here. DW and I leave for Sydney on New Years day for our 12 day cruise on the Diamond. On my recent Med/Ta cruise on the Emerald I did a live from thread. I will try to do the same from the Diamond. I will have to watch my internet usage though as on the Emerald we had free internet but on the Diamond I'll be paying for it.

On our Emerald cruise, we were in a penthouse suite with one of the perks being free internet. On our Diamond cruise, money was a little tighter so we are in a mini suite. Unfofrtunetely the mini's don't come with free internet access,....:(:(

It was sorta of a trade off. I upgraded our going over flight to business class.......:eek: The expense of doing that precluded me from getting a full suite... Oh well, it is what it is.....

Bob, at least you will be a bit more comfortable in business. But if I remember correctly, wasn't it like a 14 hour flight? Even in first it's still a long flight. Definitely take some good books. But it will all be worth it when you get there. ;) Enjoy!

Yup; it's actually a 14.35 hour flight. I will look into getting some good books. I was last in Australia 25 years ago when I was a young single man of 25 years old. DW and I are deffinetely looking forward to this. Might be our last cruise till late 2010 or even 2011 due to the economy.

It sounds like a wonderful trip. I think you made the right choice -- business class air and a minisuite over coach and a full suite. The full suite is awesome, but so is breathing room on a 14 hour flight! Have a great time and even if you can't do a live from, we'll look forward to a thorough, detailed review upon your return!

I read a story on CNN.com today that so many people say they are not traveling in 2009 that there will be amazing deals for those who do. I guess we'll see!

Boy that's a tough decision for me....Business Class on a 14.5 hr flight or a full suite....hmmmm, I would probaly tough it out for the suite! ;)

Thanks for the well wishes. It was a very tough decision and I did in fact change my mind several times before ultimately making the decision for upgrading the flight over. Sometimes even now, I wonder if I made the right choice. At lest with choosing the flight, I'll have experienced both and for my next cruise, the choice will be much easier.

We're doing a 30 day cruise on the Star next October, but we only need 1 way air, as it comes back to LA from Sydney.

 

I'm seriously thinking of flying with Air NewZealand and upgrading to there Pacific Economy just for the extra room and comfort on the flight. We got such a "smoking" deal on the cruise that we extra money to pay for the flight:D
