Aplmac Posted March 31, 2009 Author #53 Share Posted March 31, 2009 (edited) Orchid World is located in the central highlands of the island -around 800 ft. above sea level...very pleasant, even on a hot day It's a well-laid-out botanical garden showing off much more than just orchids. This is no orchid -this is Bouganvillea There's a cute gazebo(with a view) ..used for weddings! Girls..are you paying attention? and then there's the orchids.. 30,000 of them to blow you away! - and monkeys scampering about, too . virginiatechmom Posted April 1, 2009 #56 Share Posted April 1, 2009 WOWWWW... Is that a possibility for a day trip? I am all set to go to Rockey Beach for the day, but that is just gorgeous!!!! How far is it from the pier where the ship docks and are there any amenities? I probably should have searched this thread or forum before I asked that...oops :o. Aplmac Posted April 1, 2009 Author #57 Share Posted April 1, 2009 WOWWWW... Is that a possibility for a day trip? ===> Yes. I am all set to go to Rockey Beach for the day, but that is just gorgeous!!!! How far is it from the pier where the ship docks ===> Middle of the island and beyond! I just posted a response (another recent thread)...suggesting * St.Johns Church * then Bathsheba and Round House for Lunch * then shoot over to W.Coast for turtle interaction * then 'home' to the Port(exhausted) but you could easily substitute a visit to The Lion at Gun Hill, then Orchid World instead of St.Johns Church, --or maybe continue on to St.Johns Church -then do Bathsheba.. as long as you guys move quickly and don't dilly-dally. Start early.. get off the ship by 0900 hrs. or so. ;) Any beach time will be afternoon, on the West Coast combined with the turtle jaunt. How's that? . Aplmac Posted April 1, 2009 Author #58 Share Posted April 1, 2009 I keep tellin y'all you need to schedule a week here... :D There an awful lot to see and do on this one little Barbados island. It's not like the others.. .

Bathsheba and Round House sound perfect...turtle interaction??? do you mean snorkeling with them? Also, I saw pictures somewhere of crashing waves against black cliffs (now I hope I am thinking of the right island, but let me tell you I have too many islands on my mind right now ;)). Do you know what I am talking about, and if so, is that anywhere near Bathsheba? Is Bathsheba near the Round House? And what is on Bathsheba, if anything? All we really care about is the sun, sand and maybe a chair or two! Sorry for so many questions, I am just trying to make some decisions and JUST when I think I am ready to choose a beach for the day, you put up another beautiful spot that I can't resist! I think I am just going to have to come to Barbados for a land vacation. It looks like we need more than one day!!
Aplmac Posted April 2, 2009 Author #60 Share Posted April 2, 2009 Bathsheba and Round House sound perfect... - turtle interaction??? do you mean snorkeling with them? ===> Yes Also, I saw pictures somewhere of crashing waves against black cliffs - let me tell you I have too many islands on my mind right now ;)). ===> Quite possibly! :D I have a feeling you mean E.coast of St.Kitts. Do you know what I am talking about, and if so, is that anywhere near Bathsheba? ===> Not if it's St.Kitts!!! :) Is Bathsheba near the Round House? ===> The two are one! get out your MAP.;) internet map. And what is on Bathsheba, if anything? ===>Surfing, scenery and fresh air. All we really care about is the sun, sand and maybe a chair or two! ===> Then you're back to the Accra/Rockley option becoz I'm fairly sure there's no chair and umbrella rentals at Bathsheba -although you could simply throw your towel down on the sand (no shade,though..) Sorry for so many questions I am just trying to make some decisions and JUST when I think I am ready to choose a beach for the day, you put up another beautiful spot that I can't resist! ===> Round and round we go! :D I think I am just going to have to come to Barbados for a land vacation. It looks like we need more than one day!! ===> Oh yes. I've been saying that, all along! Did you read my post earlier this evening about prioritisation..and/or the need for two cruises.. and/or the need to spend a week here to get it all done? . virginiatechmom Posted April 2, 2009 #61 Share Posted April 2, 2009 Is the Animal Flower Cave near Bathsheba? I saw a picture of the cliffs and water posted earlier in this thread and would love to see that too. I guess I really do need more than a day!!! But, from what I am gathering, we should probably stick to our original plan (Rockley) because going to Bathsheba and lunch at Round House is going to take up alot of time and without any chairs/umbrellas/drinks it might be difficult to spend a few hours on the beach there???? APLMAC, what do you think? If you were me - and did not want to do a tour kind of thing, had only one day, and had a daughter who wants to worship the sun on a beautiful, but not too commercial beach - what would you pick? Aplmac Posted April 3, 2009 Author #62 Share Posted April 3, 2009 Is the Animal Flower Cave near Bathsheba? ===> No, it's half-an-island awayI saw a picture of the cliffs and water posted earlier in this thread and would love to see that too. I guess I really do need more than a day! ===> Yes. 3 days minimum But, from what I am gathering, we should probably stick to our original plan (Rockley) because going to Bathsheba and lunch at Round House is going to take up a lot of time and without any chairs/umbrellas/drinks it might be difficult to spend a few hours on the beach there?? ===> Correct. APLMAC, what do you think? ===> Your second paragraph is on the money If you were me - and did not want to do a tour kind of thing, had only one day, and had a daughter who wants to worship the sun on a beautiful, but not too commercial beach - what would you pick? ===> Accra? Accra is not that busy during the week. On Sundays and public holidays it can get a big crowded but nothing like those email pictures you've seen of South Korean beaches :D Daughter should find Accra 'cool' enough for her discerning taste and usually more than sunny enough. Remember the sun screen. And the camera. .

I believe we would all be standing in line to do a tour with you. Think about it!!!! Have already thought about it.. for a year. There are complications re. vehicle insurance carrying people "for reward/hire" that raise Insurance costs beyond what it's worth. Taxi permit, etc. IF I ever do, my posts would probably get tossed off this board since the powers that be at CC are very strict about island-locals promoting any sort of commercial activity -and I may even get chewed out for this post,as it is.. But if..if it ever happened, it would be small numbers, rather selective, of a photographic nature primarily and honestly I'm not the sorta guy who's into much rat-race, money-chasing stuff but thank you for your question...it has been thru my mind a few times, fear not. I'd also require a larger vehicle much more 'capable' than the small 2-door, 4-person Toyota wot the wife and I run around in... Who knows what the future holds. Aplmac Posted April 5, 2009 Author #72 Share Posted April 5, 2009 amazing..... That water doesn't look real - can't wait, can't wait, can't wait to get there. :) I just hope you get the sort of fabulous weather we've had today and yesterday. Dry Season is finally here for real! Yesterday there was hardly a cloud in the sky -thus that bluuuue shot taken at Accra- and today wasn't too bad either (slightly more cloud) It's going to be dry from here on, until the end of May...into June before the rains start again in July and August. Things will get quite brown in the process and island-residents look forward to the rains by mid-May,believe it or not. ;) All the grass turns brown and dusty -and it gets to be too much...sorry, too little(rain) As you can see from the colour of the lawn in the foreground of my Miami Beach shot it's already quite dried out, over on that side of the island -it's not so bad(yet) where I live in suburban Bridgetown.. . So it will be the "dry" season when we are there? I guess that is good for us tourists :), but I can imagine it isn't so great for those of you who live there full time. I guess you can just go look at that blueeeee water and it will make any worries/troubles disappear. You are so lucky to live in paradise! I just saw the pictues of Crane Resort/Beach posted above and that looks quite amazing too! Are there any places on that island that DON'T look like a postcard? ;)
erikishere Posted April 6, 2009 #74 Share Posted April 6, 2009 On our catamaran snorkel adventure along the coast of Barbados, I forgot to bring our two inexpensive underwater cameras to take pics of the Sea Turtles. Now, I'm locked out of the House, and Lorna won't let me back in, till I get authentic, non-commercial, pictures of Barbados Sea Turtles. Please help me get back in my house. Much appreciated, Erik username erikishere
