Casino charges on RCCL

Recommended Posts

I will apologize in advance because this has probably been covered in total prior here but couldnt find a link.

I am sailing the GOS on the 19th of January. On most of my cruises, I usually just charge my casino mad money on my shipboard account at the cage in the casino.. usually not more than 300-400 over the length of the cruise. I have been told that RCCL will now charge me a fee to do the same thing? Per transaction? is it a flat fee or percentage? Thank you in advance and sorry for those who have been there and done that. my first RCCL cruise in about 4-5 years so things must have changed.

I was charged a flat 3% fee for casino cash while on the Independence in November. The charge applied at both the casino cashier window and at the tables. I believe the fee is only if your card is linked to a debit or credit card. Cash accounts should not incur a fee but you might want to double check it. Good luck!

If you charge money to your Sea Pass card in the casino, you will be charged a 3% fee for doing that. ;) It is a 3% fee of the amount you charge. Example: $3.00 per hundred. Borrow $500 you pay a $15.00 fee.

Now some people have posted on here that if you do the same at the pursers desk, they do not charge you the fee.

I have no idea if the pursers answer was correct.

I am going to check at the purser's desk first in a few days. I hope there's no fee.

Technically, there probably isn't a difference. Unfortunately, instead of taking spending money with them, too many people decided to use the casino as a bank and this 3% fee is the result.

The last time I cruised, I took out $400 from the ATM in the casino. I think I remember the fee for the ATM being a flat $5 whether for $100 or $500 or whatever you withdraw. In the past, I've always used my Sea Pass card at the table to get my $400 gambling money for the trip.

Weary, the difference is that unlike you and I, who, when we use our sea pass to get money in the casino, actually spend it in the casino, others were taking the money, pocketing it and using it to pay off their credit card bill when they got home. It was basically free money that they used to inflate their bill and get extra credit card reward points. They then bragged about it on these boards:rolleyes: and eventually the cruiseline decided to put a stop to the practice and to generate a little extra revenue at the same time.:(

TBN's Hubby here:

One reason may be that when you make a purchase, say a meal at a restaurant, the vendor pays a fee to the card company. I think that fee ranges from 3 to 4% depending on the carrier.

Withdraws on your seapass cards were being treated as a purchase, so it would seem that RCCL was losing on that transaction (although they no doubt made a lot back on those that actually used it in the casino).

This policy also changed on Celebrity, BTW. It was nice while it lasted.

is that RCCL's version of Casino's at Sea for Norwegian? and if so how does one join? thanks

BILL (NEGC) my old friend, as usual you are the voice of all reason... that makes absolute sense to me about inflating the points... however.... perhaps they should do that whenever theres a rccl credit card involved and not my A/E

Apparently Norwegian still alows this though. One of my colleagues who was on NCL a few weeks previous was talking up how he ran a 2K bill at the casino in part to get the extra reward points on his card.
