tassie cruiser Posted January 16, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2009 Does anyone out there know if the Jewel will be getting the dome in the refurbishment. We cruised on Pacific Dawn NYE cruise and loved the dome. Thinking of going on the Jewel this NYE. Husb rang P&O and asked about the dome, and lady he was talking to said yes, definatly, and it would be identical to Dawn, I didnt believe as I had read heaps and nowhere did it mention this so I rang back and asked same question and the man I was talking to said no, explained what we were previously told and he said they can only go by specs they have on Ocean Village and they do not know what refurbishment will be done only thing he could say for sure was that the power points would be changed over. So now I dont know what to think. Thought maybe someone out there has heard something. Thanks in advance.. Fiona
Tigerman00 Posted January 16, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2009 NO DOME, it is going to remain as a spa area, what a waste !!

Brossy Posted January 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 16, 2009 P&O might wait until they launch the Pacific Jewel to see what kind of response they get to the Dome being a Spa and Gym as opposed to a nightclub...it's ashame though :(.
Riffraff Posted January 16, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 16, 2009 I agree it's a shame, The Dome is a great place to be on the ship. But they've been advertising the spa and gym as one of the big features of Pacific Jewel, so I doubt they'll change it. It would be a bigger job too, since the spa area goes over two decks into what used to be officers cabins.
Kiwi Kruzer Posted January 16, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 16, 2009 And all along I thought it was the same as its sister with a casino up there..... until I checked out the deck plans... Whether it stays or not will depend on how much it is used I guess.

I was told by somebody onboard that knew what they were talking about that the Dome would be a spa area. The Nightclub would be where the casino is on Dolphin deck and the casino would be down on a lower deck. Now whether this eventuates once it gets to dry dock will be interesting. But have to remember that on the Pacific Dawn on the Lido Deck the top pool and the stage were built during drydock and the Lido bar was also built in drydock and all of us on the Inaugral cruise remember the headache the flooding caused on Aloha deck. I agree it would be ashame to waste the dome it is such a pleasant place to relax but i am sure they will have good plans whatever they maybe. Brossy Posted January 16, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 16, 2009 They should move the gym on the Pacific Jewel. My husband has used the gym on both the Pacific Sun and Pacific Dawn. He said the position of the gym on the Pacific Dawn was fantastic because the gym was located in the bottom of the ship so there wasn't much movement. On the Pacific Sun he found it difficault to use the treadmills etc because it was located so high up but at least that was in the middle of the deck. The Dome is located at the front of the ship where there is so much more movement so it will be interesting to read how gym junkies find it . Single Cruiser Posted January 16, 2009 #12 Share Posted January 16, 2009 It's interesting reading some of these comments re: the dome / spa. This is one of the reasons why Carnival was re-deploying the ships into a formal traditional brand to maximise their profits. Expensive treatments that cost nearly a quarter of what you paid for a low-cost casual cruise (Ocean Village brand) don't go together. The theory is within P&O pax paying $$$$ to dress up in fancy outfits would pay for the treatments. Guess your not like the UK P&O passengers! I think its a waste of space. You'll have to wait until OV1 in Dec 2010 which does have the Dome as a day lounge and Gym and then becomes the nightclub at night! :D

I mean which cruises we have been on. Thanks..... On the top left hand off the forum there is a link called "User CP", click on that, then on the left hand side under "Settings & Options" look for a link called "Edit Signature", click on that & in there you will be able to list your past cruises, (Like what I have done), & remove your old count down clock. Hope this helps :)

Element Posted January 19, 2009 #21 Share Posted January 19, 2009 Ocean Village 2 will become the new Pacific Sun, and be housed in Brisbane. I will be called Pacific Jewel and starts sailing in Dec. 09. Have you been on OV2? I have some questions if you have, as I will be sailing on her in Dec 09.
