Just received "emergency notification" email

We just received an email from Princess entitled "Emergency Notification Urgent" and it states that an additional government fee and tax of $16.60 per person has been added to our cruise. Says will be charged to our shipboard account since we've paid for the cruise. Has this ever happened to anyone? First time for us.:(

Yes! If you read your cruise contract it will explain it all there. If port fees, taxes or any fees go higher before you sail, they have the right to pass the charges on to the passengers.

Princess does it quite often...they have also lowered the taxes too, so it works both ways.

It's happened to us a few times with Princess, whenever port charges went up.

sadly it does happen and there's not much, if anything Princess can do about it. Port fees and taxes are out of their hands.

Normally, you will receive an 'emergency notification' by email. But no worrys, if it happens, it's only a few dollars normally, one way or the other.

Yes I've had this happen to us as well. But as someone else said, we've also received refunds as well.

Thanks so much for all of the replies. We're on the April 3rd Panama Canal cruise on the Island Princess. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the "fuel surcharge" doesn't return!

yes, it is normal. As long as they don't add their own fee in it.

This happened last week to a few and they were upset. The cruise line has no choice but to pass the increase in taxes onto the consumer. It isn't good, but necessary.
