Thumbs Up for Sick Bay on Ruby Princess

Dorset Cruiser

Recommended Posts

Can I use this thread to praise the service we received in the sickbay on Ruby Princess on our recent cruise.

One of our grandchildren accidentally hit his little sister on the forehead with a golf club - a glancing blow (we were only on the fourth hole:(). She was rushed down to the sickbay and received fantastic attention from the doctor and nurse there. My son said he was the best doctor he had had experience of, with a wonderful way with children - I believe he was South African. I know it cost us $90 but, of course, we would have paid any sum demanded to get her looked at. No lasting damage, they glued the cut and she had quite a bruise but within a couple of hours was up and raring to go. Need to check the travel insurance to see what we can claim back but not worried about that - as long as she was alright.

The next day my son and his family had a visit from the ship security officer and was asked to fill in a form. They took some photographs and asked if he was happy with the service given. Of course he was. They asked if there was anything that the ship could do to make things better and all he could think of was perhaps to have some smaller, plastic golfclubs for children to use. If anyone is taking small children to use the golf links, please take care and don't end up in the sickbay like us:eek:

Thanks for sharing that story. it is always good to hear that the health services on a ship are doing great and you had great service. Hopefully I will never find out about the medical facilties but glad your family had great service.

On our last cruise on the Crown, we had a friend slip and fall near the pool. Down went him along with his lunch from the Trident Grill!! He had split open his elbow, but just bandaged it. Well, next day, after returning from Grand Turk, his elbow blew up like a balloon. Seems it got infected. He went down to the medical center and they fixed him right up! He was so impressed with the medical staff. And, the next day, was also approached by some of the staff to follow up on his condition. Great service, I say!!

on our Crown voyage in October 2007, my aunt became confused and not acting right. My cousins brought her down to the medical center and were extremely impressed with the care she got. It turned out to be the scop patch used for sea sickness, but they were worried about a possible stroke, called her several times and even made advanced arrangements for an MRI in St Thomas which thankfully they cancelled. She also dropped and lost some of her medications and they gave her enough to last til she got home. Very caring and concerned staff. I also happened upon a gentleman having a heart attack outside the casino. The staff responded instantly with 2 doctors and several nurses and worked on him for almost 1/2 hr. I was impressed with the modern equipment at their disposal and the response of the crew. I worked as an RN in a large city hospital in the emergency department and now inspect hospitals/health care facilities for a living and couldn't find fault with anything they did. It improved my comfort level with cruising 100%. I understand that all of the physicians are certified in emergency medicine. Glad they were good with the little one too; that's an art in itself!

Yes they were excellent with her. She came out still very tearful but with a certificate to say she had been very brave, plastic gloves on her hands(where she had helped the nurse to clean her up), a pack of felt-tip pens and lollies for her and her brother. Just heard today from my son that the cut has healed up nicely but that her forehead is a nice shade of greeny-yellow. It was $90 very well spent:D.
