Ranch steak?

Recommended Posts

The story behind the ranch steak is that it is inedible!

Seriously, I would expect shoe leather to be more digestable.

Depends on the person- after all the controversy surrounding the ranch steak we just needed to try it. Its not filet migon or even sirloin steak. But it was good to eat- As long as they dont over cook it.

The ranch steak is not part of the menu no longer but is offered as an alternative.

RCCL deserts beat Princess. JMHO.

Now for a moment of silence as we resurrect the dead. Get out the crops, let the beatings begin.

RCCL used to have a New York Strip steak as an alternative item on the menu each night. As a result of cost cutting measures it was replaced with the ranch steak. There were very lively threads on this board about how bad the ranch steak is.

I take it the ranch steak might be useful for certain things...

**Patching a hole in the sole of ones shoe
**Hammer to fix jammed luggage lock
**Several of them tied together might anchor a small boat
**Save one and take it home for the dog to replace the rawhide he buried someplace in the yard while you were gone

Anyone else?

It actually shows up on the menu as part of the "Surf and Tuff". OOPs, I meant to say Turf. Tell them to hold it and give you double lobster tails.

I'm on the Atkins right now and wonder if I'll be able to stay on it and survive. Will probably cheat a little, but don't want to completely blow the diet. I'm not heavy, the Atkins is the first diet to bring down my cholestrol so on it for my health. Breakfast and lunch should be no problem, but I am concerned about dinner. Any Atkins dieters out there? How'd it go for you at dinner time?

I haven't seen any recent threads about the food. We are on a 5 day Western Caribbean cruise in August and I thought I read somewhere that they had quit serving lobster. Does anyone know if this is true and if so can anyone give me an idea of what the menus consist of? Just curious, I can live off of bread without a problem, but I was sure looking forward to lobster.

I am not on Atkins exactly, but I have had gastric bypass surgery and have to avoid sugar and too many carbs from bread, pasta etc. We were on the AOS in March and I had no problem finding enough protein and good things to eat. They also have a VERY yummy sugar free dessert each night. I usually had appetizer of shrimp or fruit. Maybe a salad, and the entree. They will double the entree if you want. And according to my husband, the ranch steak is inedible. You will have no problems finding something to eat. I even lost 2 lbs.

I'm on Adkins to control Diabetes and there is no problem finding lots of choices. There are always several choices of protein, salads & veggies. Several nites I cheated and had a dessert but other nites I had cheese & fruit.
Have never tried the sugar free desserts but have heard they are very good.

Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water again - the ranch steak reappears. I have been on 3 cruises with RCCL over the last 2 years. One thing is for certain, this is a distant cousin of the steak family. I have tried it every which way you can cook it but it comes out the same every time. I would recommend the loopster or roast bef. As my daughter once said "Daddy, what is this?"

We ordered one for the table last October. Out of seven people, there were two thumbs up, four thumbs down and a "it's not the worst thing I've ever tasted"!

And just in case you want to see one. Here it is in all it's glory (or should I say...weird butter glob).

After all the comments about the Ranch Steak I had to give it a try on our recent Brilliance cruise. I am on Atkins and a major steak lover. Matbe I got lucky, but mine wasn't all that bad, I'd order it again. The key with this steak is how it's cooked. Medium is way to much, well done would be a waste. Medium rare was very good. Give it a try and see for yourself.....Big John

We tried the ranch steak, (tough and difficult to eat) and royal ranch steak (same) on the Monarch cruise 4/5/04. Very poor quality of steak. Even the NY strip steak was not good. We did enjoy the prime rib the one evening tho.
