Hope this helps you understand what I was asking

While traveling from coast to coast in the USA, we use $2 bills all the time, as we do, in our daily lives, no one has every turned one down.

Our local bank has $2 bills on hand all the time, never have them ordered especially for me, its been the same as asking for fives, tens or twenties when picking up cash, so $2 bills are normal to me and not special, funny, or cute money.

The last thing I would want to do is to make it hard for the crew to use the tips they earned or to get less for what I gave them.

I asked DBA about it again, because he was not clear that he was speaking about Banks and Businesses in the USA. Just wanted to double check USA Banks and Businesses, that was the Question for DBA that had not been answered clearly for me. As I have said several times we do not use $2 bills outside of the USA. That is all.

Dutch - Thank you for answering my question further,

Had not understood what you meant by "Special People", but I get it now

Thank you again for your time and the work you do

Hi Dutch,

We have heard conflicting answers to this question, so we want to ask the expert. Is it true that we can take cases of bottled water aboard as part of our luggage? Some people say it will be confiscated and others say that they do it all the time. We are talking about two cases for our Off to Venice cruise.

Thanks,

Where on earth did you read such a thing? I don't recall ever reading that on the CC/HAL board.

Water, soda, wine, champagne are all allowed to be brought on board---both at embarkation, and subsequent ports. Id wine/champagne is brought to a dining room or lounge it is subject to an $18 per bottle corkage charge.

Beer and hard liquor are subject to confiscation, to be returned at the end of the cruise.

I know the Rotterdam is supposed to drydock towards the end of the year for some major upgrades; new aft cabins and removal of the aft pool to replace it with an area that is more like a wading/river type of area - not sure what it's called.

I read elsewhere that these upgrades have already taken place on some other ships and the new water feature is not very popular - just wondering if the removal of the aft pool is going ahead on the Rotterdam or whether it will be retained (hoping against hope???)

Thanks,

YaYa

Unfortunately I'm not involved in dry dock decisions so would be unable to comment.

What I have heard, and has been discussed to death on here, is that Rotterdam's dry dock will have all of the same features as Veendam's and that the other 3 S Class ships will receive the upgrades in 2 stages.

It’s for me interesting to understand how HAL run the business.

Why some US people does receive regularly (and some not / never) E-Mails or normal letters / advertising’s / information’s / raffle participations / cruise schedules / Mariner stuff / birthday greetings and so on, but never (as so often mentioned on this board) i.e. someone in Europe => including me.

Happy cruising

Hi Gerd,

You mention in that thread that you believe the only way you would be able to contact the Mariner Society is via a long distance international call. LUCKILY, that is not the case!

You can also reach the Mariner Society by email:

mariner_society @ hollandamerica.com

(I added a space on each side of the "@" so the underscore shows)

Make sure that all of your address and email information is correct. (You can check any past cruise history while you're at it) To be honest, I'm not totally certain how marketing efforts are set up in Europe, but I do know that a lot of this information is likely being sent through to the French GSA, which is the agency we work hand in hand with in your country (and in this case, the agency also handles guests who reside in Monaco)

Here is their information, they may have additional information as well:

Cruisenfly

44 rue Grimaldi

MC 98000 MONACO

Phone: +377 (97) 70 25 60

Fax: +377 97 70 25 65

Email: croisieres@cruisenfly.com

HOSTS - Please note this is information for international bookings through Holland America Line for France/Monaco citizens (information is from the HAL website), and is not an unsolicited promotion of a random agency!

I hope this information helps you somewhat Gerd. I don't know a whole lot about the international sales efforts that are taking place at this time.

Hi DBA,

I'm new to cruising and thinking about cruising with HAL in Jan 2011. I've noticed that all other major cruise lines have their Caribbean itinerary for 2011 out.

So when HAL would release the Carib schedules for 2011?

Thanks,

TDK

Hi TDK. I would imagine very soon. The brochure with the 2011 Exotic Voyages and Grand Voyages (Asia, Australia, South AMerica, etc) just came out in the offiice about 10 days ago.

i can't find a simple answer to my casino question. can you use cash (bills) in the slots and not have anything connected to your sea pass? if you must use your sea pass does everything you do in the casino show up when you check your folio? (See where i'm going with this...will hubby know what i am doing)

thanks so much.

I (and I think most people) start out by inserting bills into a machine. You can add more money any time. When you leave that machine your balance info is stored on your card, but it is separate from your on-board account. I don't think your DH's card would be able to tell what your balance is, or how much (total) you have put into machines. Good luck! :D

DBA,

Can you tell me if HAL has anything equivalent to RCI's Meet and Mingle? I know HAL used to organize the meet and greet(?) many years ago. In the last 10 years I have only cruised RCI and enjoy the meet and mingles. I am giving HAL another shot and cruising the Far East on the Volendam, at the end of this month. I see NO PLACE where our Roll Call Members can sign up for a meet and greet.

Look forward to your reply.

Marise
