Rowan555 Posted February 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2009 I am saddened by the rumor that food is no longer being served at the Captain's Cocktail Party. I can really do without the other little treats, but we LOVE those little meatballs and would be sad to see them go. Do we NEED more food just before or after dinner? Well, no..... But those meatballs are a Carnival tradition I don't want to see go away. We'll be on the Fantasy again in April - and I'm crossing my fingers that there will be meatballs waiting for me at the captain's party. And if that's not possible, at least let me trade in those yucky canapes and petit fours I get for being platinum for a BIG plate of meatballs ;)

Steve-N-Steph Posted February 12, 2009 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Don't know how long they will still be there, but I can happily report that on the Fantasy they still had meatballs at the Captain's Cocktail Party. We cruised 1/29/09 and they were still being served! :D
CFD130 Posted February 12, 2009 #6 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Is the captains part only for past cruisers?
Loveland2Disney Posted February 12, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Are first time cruisers allowed at these cocktail parties? Is it a dress up affair and is it held on the first night of the cruise?
BullDogChief Posted February 12, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Is the captains part only for past cruisers? Nope, the Captain's Party is for all guests who want to attend! :D ...and I love the meatballs too, I hope they will be there in October!
Luckysll Posted February 12, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 12, 2009 Is the captains part only for past cruisers? No, there are two separate parties. The Captain's cocktail party is the same evening as the first elegant dinner and everyone is welcome. The party for past guests is held on another evening (usually the second elegant evening). momofzeke Posted February 12, 2009 #11 Share Posted February 12, 2009 LOVE THOSE MEATBALLS!! :D Seems to be mixed reports on food still being served at the Captain's party. Some say they did have food recently.....others did not. So far, it sounds like there are still hors d'oeuvres at the Past Guest party, though. Vettebuf Posted February 12, 2009 #12 Share Posted February 12, 2009 I'm happy to report that there was plenty of food at the Captain's party on the 1/11 Freedom cruise. I didn't look for meatballs though and don't remember them.
vacruizer Posted February 12, 2009 #13 Share Posted February 12, 2009 I love the chicken dumplings, too! I could do without the salmon mousse stuff on a cracker - although it provides great entertainment to look around the room and watch people take a bite of those things - the looks on their faces are great. Those things are nasty! I still think it comes off as cheap not to offer a little food at the captain's party. It also helps to have a little something to soak up the alcohol with.
tonit964 Posted February 12, 2009 #14 Share Posted February 12, 2009 On our 1/31/09 Spirit cruise there was no food at the the Captian's party but there was at the past guest party...go figure.
Nicole721 Posted February 12, 2009 #15 Share Posted February 12, 2009 We had PLENTY of meatballs (and salmon cakes, and mozzarella/tomato caprese, and some gross looking pate) on the Miracle two weeks ago for both the Captains party and the Past Guest party. Name Of The Game Posted February 12, 2009 #16 Share Posted February 12, 2009 The meatballs were the only things worth eating.

No food on the Liberty last month either......and, the selection of cocktails was reduced. Past guest party wise likewise thin. Salmon and chicken on toast points...plenty of drinks though. I don't eat things that can't be identified, so that includes a couple of those canapes that aren't from this Earth, and a few of the petit fours that look like they came from a baby diaper. I don't alway get the cocktail meatballs, but would certainly still make the mentioned trade. :)
Dave85 Posted February 13, 2009 #22 Share Posted February 13, 2009 We had no meatballs on Splendor's New Years cruise. I was very disappointed... I too don't care for any of the other food but loved those meatballs! :( Since they're still on some ships and not others I wonder if they're being gradually phased out. Looks like Gerry Cahill strikes again...
