GeoffR Posted February 15, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2009 Any assistance very much appreciated. We (seasoned travellers 50+) but not here. Cruised Caribean once & 5 days in western Med only. We fancy 7 days Sept/Oct this year. All and every bit of advice very gratefully recieved. Istanbul/Dubrovnic etc sound interesting. Anyone been on an eastern cruise in autumn? Thanks to all who read this. Geoff
Rare cruisemom42 Posted February 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2009 Fall is a great time to cruise the Eastern Med. I went in late Fall (November) on a 12-day itinerary that included Rome, Naples, Athens, Mykonos, Istanbul, Kusadasi, and Alexandria. The weather was good (although it can be cool and rainy in Nov), and the crowds were almost NONEXISTENT, which was the best part. Are you limited to a week? You'll find a greater variety of itineraries if you can look at slightly longer cruises.
ger_77 Posted February 16, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2009 I agree with cruisemom42 that a week just isn't enough to see all the places in that part of the world. We've been there twice already, once in June and once in October and both times were before peak tourist season, which was really nice. We're going again on Holland America's Rotterdam in October for another 2 week experience this coming October and can't wait! The weather's usually nice and you aren't bothered by crowds at the popular sites. Smooth Sailing! :):):)
paul929207 Posted February 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2009 We took a 12 night cruie on the Royal Princess from Venice to Rome over Thanksgiving, 2007. The weather was coler than the summer, but still pleasant and the crowds were gone.
