Overnighting in Bangkok Question

Almondtree

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We are booked on Holland America Volendam Hong Kong to Singapore on November 9, 2009. The ship stays overnight in Bangkok so we have 2 days there although must be back on board by 5 pm the 2nd day. Since it is a 2 hour ride from the port to Bangkok, we are considering whether to take a hotel room and stay overnight rather than back and forth for 2 days. On the other hand, is there really enough to do to warrant the 2nd day in Bangkok? Perhaps one full day and evening is enough?

Would appreciate hearing from those of you who have been there or have any information regarding this. Also, any suggestions for tour guides would be appreciated.

My personal email is pcohen48@gmail.com in case I never find my way back to this site again.

Thanks.

We are used this group and stayed overnight in Bangkok. We saw an amazing amount and couldn't recommend them more highly. Our tour guide Katy was great. They can arrange anything you want.

It is about a ninety minute drive each way although could be longer depending on traffic.

On our cruise they offered two overnight programs; one was one that was structured and included tours for most of the first and part of the second days. The other one included transportation both ways and also the hotel accomodations.

Either approarch is fine. Just think through if you are OK being on a bus for three hours in one day or if you would like to break it up with an overnight.

While we saw the city on our own, I think I would recommend doing a tour.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks all for your response. It looks like HAL docks in laem chabang. Don't know if this is also where Azamara docks.

It's still too early for me to think about tours, etc. but I thank you for the info.

I emailed HAL and they confirmed that Volendam will dock in Laem Chabang.

Azamara usually docks at Klong Toey although one trip they did dock at LC as KT was full.

Last week Nautica docked at Klong Toey even though she was listed to dock at LC both on the ports website and their own website!
