Cashless Casino. How does it work?

Hi ...we will be on the Crown in a couple of months and we want to know more about the cashless Casino and how the process works.

At the tables ...do you hand in a card or do you go to a cashier with your Captain's circle card. Can you use cash? How do you cash in your winnings? Does it mean you keep your chips to use the next time you play? Do you somehow get a credit on your OBC .

At the slots ....do you stick your card in the machine to select the amount that you want to use to play. Do you leave your card in the machine? What happens if you want to play two machines at once? ...or move from one machine to another?

Would appreciate any and all information.

Cheers

I've only played the slots on the ships so I can't help with the tables. I bring money with me to the casino on the first night and use it to play. At the end of the night, or when I want to switch machines, I create a pin # and download the balance of my money in the machine to my cruise card. I can then play any machine by inserting the cruise card in a slot machine, putting in my pin#, and keying in how much money I want to download from the card. If I'm lucky, I don't have to bring any more cash with me for the entire cruise!

I believe the question is "do the slot machines take cash?", answer is yes.

Question, "do slot machines take coins?", answer is no. Question, "do slot machines payoff in coins?", answer is NO, they give you a voucher to be taken to the cashier for cash.

At the tables I believe is the same system that is universal in casinos. Give the dealer the US cash, he gives you chips, you gamble with the chips and he wins the chips.

Good luck!!!

Do you have to bring cash to the casino to start or can you just 'charge' it to your shipboard account? If so is there a fee for doing this?

Thanks...

No cash is required. You can use your cruisecard like cash for up to $1500 per day and $200 per transaction. And that can be increased if necessary.

Not sure about the other ships but on the Ruby it goes this way:

The slot machines will accept bills only ($1 to $100). Your money is displayed as credits and you play using those credits.

Once your money is deposited into the machine you cannot "cash out" from the slot machine and receive cash. You have to insert your cruise card, set up a PIN number and receive the credit applied to your cruise card. In order to get your cash you then need to take your cruise card to the casino casier and request your cash. We saw a lot of folks confused by this since they thought they could just insert some cash and cash out when finished.

If you don't want to insert cash you can insert your cruise card, set up your PIN number and charge the credits to your onbaord account. Either way you will still need to take your cruise card to the casino cashier in order to get cash. On the final night of the cruise make sure you cash out your cruise card or you will lose any money still on the card.

You can't leave the balance from the casino on the cruise card and use the credit toward charges on your account (such as the Auto-Tip)?

Hi Psee .....From what you have explained ....I think I have the process figured out ...however I do have some more questions if you wouldn't mind answering them for us and thanks for taking the time.

1. Is it the same Cruise Card that you use for Boarding and buying drinks etc.

2. If you insert the card do they have a way of telling you that your card is inserted before you happen to walk away from the machine or do you have to remove your card before you begin play.

3. Now you are at the slot machine and you win 300 credits and you want to move to another machine....from what you have said it seems that while you play you leave your card inserted into the machine and remove it when you're finished...then move to another machine and insert your card again or do you remove your card and play..... then if you win, insert your card again ..do your Pin# thing and download your credits onto your card. ?????????

I am asking these detailed questions because my wife is virtually deaf and would have difficulty and mounting frustration trying to receive instructions everytime she had to play during her time in the Casino each day ....

4. At the tables I wouldn't think that much has changed because your payoff would be your winning chips or remaining chips and then take them to the Cashier and get your cash.....am I correct or do they ask for your card and download your winnings onto your card......if that were the case the only way you could check if the transaction was done correctly is go to the Purser's desk everytime and get a print out ..... Or possibly the Cashier gives you a paper receipt for your transaction which you can periodically check against your OBC.

I have probably asked more then I had to but this does seem cumbersome and may take a considerable amount of the fun out of going to the Casino.

Cheers

Ken

We just returned from the CB. This was my the 1st time using Cruise Card in the Casino. When you go to the casino, insert your card into a slot machine. It will prompt you to set up a pin #. After setting up your pin # you can then withdraw cash from your account into the machine. You can withdraw up to $1500 per day on your card. The credits from winning or loosing on the slot machine are added or deducted from the amount on your card. In order to cash out, you hit the cash out button on the display panel next to your card (not the cash out button on the machine). Your account will then be credited or debited. You then take your card to the next machine of your choice and insert it, insert your pin # and withdraw money from the card into the machine and the machine will register the amount of credits you have selected. On the last night of the cruise, just take your card to the cashier and cash out.

The system is slightly cumbersome in the beginning, but it becomes second nature after a few uses. I liked the idea of not having to handle all the coins and the system worked well for me. After you set up your pin# you can also insert cash into the slot machine and when you cash out, you can cash out to your cruise card and the credit will be on the card. After I set up the card, I withdrew $100 from my Princess account and then played with that the entire trip. The amount on the card went up or down according to my luck on the slots. On the last night of the cruise, I had a $320 credit on my card and received that money in cash from the cashiers window. Good Luck, you will figure it out pretty quickly.

Yes

Your card doesn't need to be in the machine. You remove it as soon as it has registered.

Tables work the same everywhere. Cash in and hopefully cash out. Just take your chips to the cage and get your $$$. Nobody asks for your card.

Easy process Ken. Don't sweat the small stuff. :D

When we were on the Caribbean Princess in July 2007, you didn't have to use your card unless you wanted to. I used my card, but my husband used cash. We didn't get a paper when we cashed out either. I wish Princess just used the paper like most casinos do. Easier for everyone.

If my money ran out on the card, I would play with cash. If I started winning, then I would use my card again.

People use their card because.......

1. They don't want to carry cash

2. They want it on their shipboard account (like me) to get rid of lots of OBC

Yes, I remember accidentally cashing out (getting coins) a few times when I should have transferred the balance to the card. So you can play either way ... with or without using the card.

That is something you have to remember to do if you have credits left over. I always worried that they weren't actually being transferred to the card, especially when I won $825 on one machine. You don't have to wait until the last night to get your cash. You can cash out any time.

If you wanted to play two machines, you would just transfer money into one, move the card to the second one and transfer money to that one.

I believe you would want to leave the card in the machine, though, since I remember getting a small amount of cash back after accumulating a certain number of points based on play.

I wonder how many hundreds of sea pass cards have already been left in the slot machines when people walk away and forget to take them out?

I prefer playing with real money. It is obvious that they know most folks wont realize how much debt they are racking up since no real money is changing hands up front.

Let's face it...there will be a whole lot more debt being added to the card than there will be cash.

Leaving the card in the machine can be a hassle. Last week on the Ruby I left the casino and was almost back to my cabin before realizing I had left the card in a machine. Fortunately the card was still in the machine when I returned to the casino.

A Lanyard attached to your card is good since you can hook it to your clothes or just let it hang in front of the machine as a visual aid when you finish. You don't have to leave the card in the machine but the bonus points are not credited without it. On the Ruby you receive a $10 credit for every 1000 points played. (You can get your card punched for a lanyard at the purser's desk.)

Ken, on your first visit to the casino, just ask one of the casino employees to walk you and your DW through the process.

Hey Folks ...thanks for coming to the rescue. I thoroughly enjoy a night at the Casino and so does my wife....however, if she's not happy then I'm not happy ....so I hope this early lesson will help with the "cashless" transition.

Thanks for everyone's input as we now have a better understanding of what to expect.

Cheers

Can the money on the card just apply to your open balances? That is, if you have $500 in Casino money on the card, but owe $600 in ship charges, can you just leave the Casino money to pay off your other charges? It seems that would be much easier than cashing out the $500 and paying the $600 as a separate charge.

I don't think you can do it that way. If you want to pay down your credit card, just take the $500 and apply it to your account at the purser's desk. They take cash.

Last year on our CB cruise, my DH sat at a machine which had over $50 left in it.

No one was around.

Who would leave over 200 credits?

I thought possibly someone either forgot to cash out or used the "cashless" system.

Actually I was on the Crown two weeks ago and played quite a bit. The casino credits are held in a different account than your on-board charges. The credits don't effect your on-board account. You can "download" credits from your on-board account if you choose but you can also just play by adding cash to your "player account." Two separate accounts.

They continually announced on the last day at sea that you must cash out your player account at the casino window. Any credits left on your player account will not be transfered to your on-board account but lost.

I really liked the system. It was easy and a great way to track how much you have. In fact I played on house money most of the wee.:D
