latisse anyone???

Recommended Posts

WOW - that is what I need! A year's worth of medication left me with thinning hair, including on my eyelashes - I have thin stubs. Maybe I'll splurge and try it! How long will your extensions last? And how do they apply them? thanks:)

The lashes will last about 2 months, or as long as the natural eyelash it's glued to will last.

The way it was done, was that I lyed down on a spa bed, closed my eyes and the specialist then put some glue on my top lashes. After that she proceeded to individually glue on about 25 individual lashes per eye. The whole time my eyes were closed and it was very relaxing. I almost fell asleep. It took her 1.5 hours to apply them.

I don't need any mascara on the top, and I wake up looking like I have makeup on. I have to be careful when removing eyeshadow so I don't get oil remover on the glue.

I spoke to my husband's opthamologist about it. He's a very well known glaucoma expert. Unbeknownst to me, he was one of the doctors who did the trials on the cosmetic use of the product.

He told me that the product is successful in 80% of the people that use it. There are no harmful side effects and the skin discoloration goes away if you stop using the product. Also, the eyecolor change generally occurs in people with hazel eyes, not blue or brown eyes.

The key ingredient in the product is Bimatropost.

Sorry, that is not true. My eyes are brown, no one would ever mistake them for hazel or blue. And, now one eye is a noticeably dark brown and the other is light brown. The difference is enough that people comment on it. This medicine can cause your eye color to gradually change, by increasing the amount of brown pigment in your iris. It predominately happens in people with green-brown, yellow-brown or blue/grey-brown eyes. If the drops are only used in one eye, this may cause your eyes to permanently become different colors.

Direct from Lumigan's webpage:

After stopping LUMIGANtrade_regular.gif, darkening of eye color is likely to be permanent while darkening of the eyelid skin and eyelash changes may be reversible. The effects of increased darkening beyond 5 years are not known.

Lumigan is a prostaglandin analogue, not a steroid.

Lumigan, as with most drugs, comes with its own set of side effects, which anyone who is interested can easily find with a google search. I just wouldn't use what I consider a silly product so I could temporarily have thicker eyelashes, which will go back to your normal thickness when you discontinue use. But as I've already posted, everyone makes their own choices.

I started using Lumigan about 3 weeks ago. During my last ophthalmologist appointment it was discovered that I had narrow angle glaucoma and was corrected with in-office laser surgery. However, when in the doctor's office I asked her if she would consider writing me a prescription for Lumigan - not for eye care since I had just had surgery for glaucoma - but for cosmetic purposes only. Lumigan is a great deal cheaper than Latisse (5 ounces for around $79 minus the $20 rebate coupon on the Allergan website, as opposed to 3 ounces of Latisse for around $120). The doctor had no hesitation at all in writing me the prescription (with 5 refills). She discussed the possible side effects with me but also told me that since I was not putting the drops directly INTO the eye but rather a significantly reduced amount on the eyelashes only, she did not feel that I had to be worried about the darkening of the iris, changes in eye pressure, etc. After 3 weeks of use I can say that I have definitely noticed a change in the number of lashes (really thick), but not the length YET. I have also noticed more hairs growing on my eyebrows.

!

I have never noticed any increase in the length of my lashes, just thickness. Are you putting the Lumigan directly on your eyebrows? If so, how do you avoid getting it on your skin?

When I apply the Lumigan I just put one drop of the medication in the lid/cap of the container. Then I use my designated eyeliner brush to sweep the Lumigan over the top of each eyeline. One drop is actually quite a lot of liquid, so with the remaining Lumigan I brush it over each eyebrow. Using the eyeliner brush gives me great precision. I have never had any trouble with it dropping on my cheeks or getting it anywhere I didn't specifically place it. I am looking forward to seeing what happens during the next 4 weeks!

Sorry, haven't posted an update in quite a while. It's been apprx. 15 weeks and I now have crazy gorgeous eyelashes. Also, a big improvement on my rather skimpy eyebrows. I threw out all my old lengthening, thickening mascara and just use a very natural looking one, just one coat and I wipe off the applicator with a paper towel before hand, it looks like I was born with these lashes! I know this sounds like a crazy rant, but I am really happy with the results & it's been so worth it. A few answers to FAQ:

Did my eyes darken, change colour? (they are blue)

No

How much is it costing me?

So far I've bought two bottles, it's been 15 weeks , I am almost thru the second bottle, I have paid $99 for each bottle.

Any odd side effects?

yes, for me, the edge of my upper lashes is darker, sort of like eyeliner, I consider it a real plus and my Dr. says it's not a problem.

Will I continue use?

absolutely, as long as I can afford it!

No, unless you get it in your eyes, they won't change color. And no, a change in pigmentation around your eyes is not a medical problem, just a cosmetic one. If it doesn't bother you, that's great.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of my 12th week of using Lumigan/Latisse and I, too, now have crazy long eyelashes. It is SO exciting! And just like CruiseKitty, I no longer use my lash thickening mascaras but instead use only one coat of a more natural mascara (Clinique Lash Power). Even the sales person at the Clinique counter commented on the length of my lashes! Although optimal results can be seen at 16 weeks, I can't imagine them getting any longer than they are now. Crazy!

I have brown eyes so I have not noticed any change in the color of my iris at all. However, I am very careful when I apply the Lumigan/Latisse and use a fine eyeliner brush when I put it on the lash line right before I go to bed. I have not noticed any darkening of the skin next to the lashline, either. I was fortunate to get a prescription for Lumigan from my ophthalmologist following my glaucoma surgery and am still on my first bottle (which I started on March 17). One drop sure does go a long way! :D

I'm also using it, but have only been using it for 5 weeks now. I have to admit that sometimes I'm tired and forget to use it. I average 5-6 times per week.

My lashes are finally getting a little longer, but they're not thicker yet.

I have no change of color on my iris or on my eyelid, and no discomfort from the product whatsoever.

Will report back in a few weeks.

I have been using Latisse for 5 weeks now. While I didn't need it for my eyelashes, my poor eyebrows have started to thin (not because of waxing) and my esthetician said Latisse would do the trick. Of course, I'm not going to lie and say I haven't used it on my lashes because, since I bought the stuff, why not! As I said, it has been 5 weeks and I am definitely noticing a difference in my lashes but I am more excited about my brows. I am going on a cruise in September and I will actually have to have my brows waxed beforehand!!

My dermotologist offered me Latisse last week for $125 glad I passed! However she did not mention the eyebrow growth at all. I would have purchased two bottles even at that price! But don't you risk a darkening of the skin near the brow area? I would think it has the same possibility of darkening like along the lash line? I hate drawing my brows on every morning!

Well all I can say is I am happy for anyone who wants to use this product to lengthen and thicken their lashes and/or eyebrows or whatever and I hope they get the results they desire. I have been using Lumigan (one drop per day in each eye) for almost 6 years and I really can't say I see a noticeable difference in my eyelashes; however, I certainly have the change in pigmentation around my eyes. :( Thankfully, it has kept the pressure down in my eyes and I am very grateful for that.

It's great if it works for you, but as soon as you discontinue use, you will go back to your regular eyelashes. I use Lumigan, the eye drops from which this product was developed, for a medical condition. I have not yet had anyone comment on my thicker lashes, but they do comment on my eyes, which are two different colors. Again, I would never use this product if I did not need to use the drops to keep my vision. It will take a while to notice side effects; please be very careful with the brush.

Same stuff that my husband used for a while - he has alopecia [absolutely NO hair anywhere, which means his eyelashes and nose hairs are gone. WHich has deleterius effects on overall health] and he and his doc decided after about a year the side effects were not worth the filtering and protective effects of eyelashes. He just keeps eyedrops on hand all the time to rinse out the dust and debris.

To be sort of rude, I do not understand using a medication that has the possibility of serious side effects to get pretty. Sorry if I am a party pooper, but I have enough drug interactions with what I need to take to maintain life in a reasonably normal mode, taking stuff that is not medically indicated is stupid. I would do just about anything to not have to hork down on the close order of 20 pills and 2 injections a day.

I think that everyone sympathizes with your serious medical conditions, but I don't think that there is any reason to be jealous of people who chose to use FDA approved drugs to improve their appearance or their lifestyles. I think it is really rude to call people like me "stupid" for using a product that give me longer, prettier eyelashes with a very minimal risk of side effects (none that I've seen in six months of use).

I am sorry for your illness (as well as you DH's problem) However, I happily use several cosmetic medications. Latisse, Retin A, Tri- luma plus I pack sunscreen on my face twice a day. Haven't tried botox yet, but I'm thinking about it, I guess my point is, everyone has to find thier own comfort level regarding these type of products.
