We will be visiting Trinidad on our 1st ever caribbean cruise. As this is our 1st time we are looking for places to visit that are near to the port,as it will all be new to us.

What is Port of Spain like?a nice place or should we give it a wide berth?

Any nice beaches close by?

What are the people like?

Any information would be geatly appreciated.

thank you

Unfortunately there is nothing to do near the Port. You will be arriving in

a busy city with alot of traffic. To enjoy Trinidad you definately have to take a tour and get away from the city.

There isn't much of anything within walking distance from the port. A small straw market and a few shops in the port building itself. Last time there, in January, they did have a small show they were putting on at the end of the pier.

And please be careful in Trinidad. On our last cruise in January, a small group decided to walk a few blocks to see what they could find. The gentleman was mugged and his wallet stolen. This isn't rumor as I spoke with him onboard the ship the next day.

Remember, the ship offers tours in this port, or you can arrange a private tour, but don't venture out alone.

Nearest beach is about an hour by taxi away, nothing close to the port whatsoever.

Princess used to stop at Trinidad for fuel for a few hours, why in the world they decided to make it a full port day is beyond me. :(

We have visited Trinidad three times now, it makes a great day to hang out at the pool onboard. ;)

Maracas Bay is it.

It's definitely the sweetest, simplest thing to do

-involving the least amount of Trinidadian traffic!

En route, you get to go up and over the Northern Range and thru a bit of its rainforest.

If you're the nervous kind

this is the kinda stop where you might consider taking a nice safe Ship's Tour

and again..Maracas Bay -it beats staying on the ship. ;)
