missou Posted March 11, 2009 #51 Share Posted March 11, 2009 Hi, I'm Dominique from Montreal. I just became a TA specialising in cruises. I work from home. I have no cruise planned for now but a wedding if France in July. I have to loose some 30 pounds in all. It is not a lot, many people tell me that I look great, but I don't feel good. I need to exercice more than going on a diet... I am motivitate to do the work, I want to do it, but when it is time to do it, I become lazy :( :( I have a treadmill in my office and I have pilates DVDs and other exercice DVDs on my shelf, it is time for me to use them. Pilates is a good workout when you have a bad knee, I had a knee surgery last June. Dancing is also a good workout anyone can practice alone or with someone. I am glad I have found a place where people know that exercicing is as important and even more to a weight loss plan than simply going on a diet. Let's go everyone!!! We can do it!!! riddle Posted March 12, 2009 #52 Share Posted March 12, 2009 I need ideas...I am doing great all day. I come home and I am starved. What ideas does everyone have for something that is low in calories but gets rid of that "empty pit" feeling in your stomach. It is too early for dinner when I get home. Things like raw veggies just leave me feeling even emptier. Help! Marsha

de313 Posted March 12, 2009 #54 Share Posted March 12, 2009 Hi everyone it's DeAnna here and welcome to everyone that is on this chat/support site (that's what I call it and need), we all can use a little/lot of support. I understand how hard it is to stay away from all the goodies that coworkers bring in ie... candy kisses.... but I did it. Of course were doing snacks on Tuesday the 17th for St. Pattys day OOOOH BOY not sure what I'm going to take yet. As I said I'm a nurse and nurses LOVE to eat together, like snack day or potlucks. I'll think of something (maybe fruit) I don't know yet. Marsha - try some fresh fruit with or without cottage cheese or have a bowl of salad it help with the hunger. You may want to have a yogurt or cottage cheese as a afternoon snack at work it works for me (I get off work at 5:30pm) I did work out tonight after work, my legs and arms hurt (it will be worth it. Well everyone have a goodnight and I'll be back on tomorrow night to check in and see how everyone is doing.
missou Posted March 12, 2009 #55 Share Posted March 12, 2009 Chips and salsa... helps you get in veggies too! Choose your chips wisely, some contain more fat then others. Veggie chips can be a good choice. Here is a link for a recipe for oven baked chips. http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/food/chi-0225-chips-cookfeb25,0,3421825.story Sounds interresting. missou Posted March 12, 2009 #58 Share Posted March 12, 2009 I am happy to see everyone is doing a good job and are pleased with their progress. I also am glad, I drank a lot of water and ate a lot of carrots instead of any other kind of food in the last few days. Keep up the good work everyone!! linkerbink Posted March 13, 2009 #60 Share Posted March 13, 2009 Wow, Carissa! How great is that!? Good job. I sort of went off the other day...had a "pizza for one" and some wine...we'll see what the damage was on my Monday weigh-in. Shouldn't be too bad if I stay on track from now on... cruisefan42 Posted March 13, 2009 #62 Share Posted March 13, 2009 Hello Everyone, I have joined a weight loss thread about 3 or 4 times, this time is going to work! I will stick with it. I have become progressively fatter over the last 10 years. I am 5'7 and now weigh about 198lbs. I am cruising in October and I will be under 150! I am from Ontario Canada, I cruise 1-2 times per year. I am 44 and have 3 kids 18 , 20, 22. We have a show I have been watching called X- Weighted, it follows somone for 6 months during their weight loss. From this I have devised my own diet. Low calorie, low fat, low carb. I am hoping to eat mostly lean meat and lots of veggies. No white bread, sugar or starches and NO processed food. This is challenging since I work full time. I am going to try and prepare food on Sundays for the week ahead. I have also joined the gym. I am extremely unmotivated when it comes to exercise beyond walking the dog. So here's to 6 months of dedication, and hopefully 50 lbs I will never see again.
CarissaH330 Posted March 13, 2009 Author #63 Share Posted March 13, 2009 It's amazing what happens when you stick to your plan, huh?? :) Actually I didn't do very well last weekend at all, so that's why I was surprised at the big loss. I'll sure take it though! As soon as I start feeling better I'm gonna start walking the dog. Especially now that it stays lighter longer.

And I have been getting progressively heavier too:eek: I work full time too and have never been motivated to exercise. Now, I have no kids so that cannot be a factor but when I read your post...I thought, that is ME. I have not eaten white bread in probably 15 years. I am a whole wheat/grain/rye kinda bread gal:D..so that is ONE positive. I have a friend in Savannah who told me to write everything down that I eat. Wonder if that works too? cruisefan42 Posted March 13, 2009 #65 Share Posted March 13, 2009 Hi Lois, I have also read that a food journal is a great key to success. I know I very often mindlessly munch. One of my big problems is when I have a few bites of something delicious I can't stop eating until it is all gone. I remember talking with you last year, when I was thinking of taking a solo cruise. You were my solo cruise hero! :) I still have not tried it. :o Maybe I am lacking the self confidence to be on my own. Lisa
Rare Lois R Posted March 13, 2009 #66 Share Posted March 13, 2009 Hi Lisa, thank you for the kind words:) If I can motivate you to cruise solo?:D Maybe we can motivate each other to eat better? I sailed again in January and am going again next month:) (albeit a short 4 nighter). I lack no self confidence when it comes to cruising solo...too bad I can't seem to have it when comes to losing weight:eek:
emmysmommy Posted March 14, 2009 #67 Share Posted March 14, 2009 I hate to arrive at the party late but I'd love to join in! I'm on day 69 of trying to reach my 35 lb loss goal by my cruise in August. Sounds like you all are motivated and encouraging each other. I'm in my mid 40s and LOVE carbs and hate to exercise. But... I started on January 5th just moving more and eating less. Slowly I'm working up to being on the treadmill an hour a day for 5 days a week and reduced my calories by 500 a day to lose at least a pound a week. I also keep a food diary with everything I eat - including the donuts and cookies that I occassionally cheat with. I wish everyone the best and continuted success with your weight loss goals!! :)

linkerbink Posted March 14, 2009 #69 Share Posted March 14, 2009 Hello, Vicky! Congratulations on your 5 years of cancer survival, and on your first cruise! I'm sure you and DH can lose quite a bit of weight between now and October. Joining the Y should help a lot. I have bad knees so I'm pretty much limited to walking. The weather her in PA is finally starting to cooperate and I plan to start getting outside to walk. I have a treadmill (manual) which I use but it's not the same as actually covering some ground! Good luck with your efforts! Susan PS - Isn't it a bummer how the guys can seem to just drop the weight at the drop of a hat??!! Not fair!:(

Not fair!:( Thanks for the welcome Susan:) Sorry to hear you have bad knees I know that can hinder the exercise part but there is always other options that are low impact such as swimming ....do you have anyway to do pool exercises? I want to try and lose at least 40-50 lbs by October. The Y we joined is brand new and has all up to date machines and a therapy pool which I plan to start using soon. Our weather here in Ohio hasn't been very outside walking friendly either. We also have a treadmill and precor exercise bike but it only seems to gather dust here. Maybe I will dust it off and use it in the evenings after our morning workouts at the Y.:D PSS. it's not fair that men lose quicker. But I am glad that we are doing this together. riddle Posted March 14, 2009 #73 Share Posted March 14, 2009 I feel like I've done really well all week. I have stuck to my "healthy" diet. I am diabetic and used to do really well but have gotten off track lately. I think it is a combination of stress and winter doldrums. I have started walking the dog every night - he is really happy about that. I do not know if this is right or wrong but I have not set a specific goal for weight loss before my cruise 8/2. I know I need to lose at least 80 lbs - 5 are gone so I guess it is 75 now. I know I cannot do this by August and it would be wrong to lose that quickly anyway. I just want to feel better about myself, be a size or two smaller and feel healthier. Already I feel stronger when I walk. I had knee replacement last summer and am a candidate for the other knee when ever I can get around to scheduling it. Right now between my job and other things in my life it is just not a good time. However, I also know there will never be a good time to do something like that. I wish everyone success. Keep smiling :) and Spring is just around the corner. (pretty nasty winter here in Cincinnati)

Sorry to hear about your son...another sign of the times, I'm afraid. Fortunately, I'm retired and don't have to worry about layoffs. Unfortunately, my retirement nest egg has taken a hit! My brother used to live in Kettering, worked for Huffy bicycles. Now he works for GE in Cleveland. He got his BA at UC and his MBA at Antioch. (I went to school in PA). Yes, doing your weight control and exercise together will be a big asset. It's not easy if you don't get support from your significant other! I never had to worry about my weight until the past few years. I'm a widow so I'm on my own for trying to lose. My husband wouldn't have had to lose any, though...he was a retired Marine and always tried to stay fit.
