Hey everyone- We are first time cruisers and will be going on the Carnival Conquest out of Galveston on Oct. 4th for our honeymoon. We are very excited. We are getting a balcony room, but we have no idea where we want to be on the ship. Front, back, up, down. I'm clueless!! What deck on the ship does all the activity happen? Is there anything we need to do in advance? We are booking trip directly with Carnival. We are going to get our passports soon. WE ARE SO EXCITED!!! Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

My suggestion would be to look at the deck plans when you are making your reservation so you know exactly where your stateroom will be located.

If motion sickness is a concern, think mid-ship and lower decks.

Whenever possible, I prefer to be on a deck with other staterooms below us and above us. Cuts down on the risk of noise. We avoid being too near nightclubs and casinos as well.

Good luck. Congrats on the wedding and have a great cruise!!

We prefer the back of the ship. Decks 7 or 8. That way we are close to the things we go to most often. That might not apply to you two since you might not leave the room very often. :p

The Conquest is a great ship. You two will have so much fun!

I like to be close to an elevator or stairs and closer to the middle of the ship. That way you can get wherever you are going the fastest. Seasickness is not an issue for us. On my upcoming cruise, I am on Empress level near the very back. It will be such a long walk for us to get to the front of the ship!

If your room is in the middle of the boat then you will not feel it swaying too much when the water is rough. You would want to pick a floor/room that has rooms above you and below you so it won't be sooo noisy. If you like to feel the boat movement when the waters are alittle rough then pick front or back. Personally for us we love to feel the rocking of the boat especially at night so we pick back of boat. (The boat usually doesn't rock until your on the way back for Cozumel...I have not figured that one out yet.) :)

Enjoy your cruise and be forwarned that it is addicting. Hubby and I took our first cruise for our honeymoon and we loved it.

BON VOYAGE :) If you are "legal" you have got to try the funship specials....they are yummy.

Congratulations on your first cruise as well as your pending marriage and honeymoom!:D DH & I were married on Oct. 11 -- we will be celebrating our 42nd anniversary this year.

As far as cabin selection as to which part of the ship, it all depends on your own outlook on your cabin. If either you or your wife-to-be has good sea legs, then cabins forward or aft are great spots to be to let the ship rock you to sleep at night.

If your are not sure of your sea legs and how you will react to the rolling of the ship at sea, then I would chose a lower cabin, midship. Rule of thumb, the higher the deck, the more rocking you will get. Mid ship gets less rocking than forward or aft.

Have a great time planning your honeymoon cruise together, and may you both have many more great cruises together!

My wife and I are sailing on the Conquest on August 2 and we got a balcony near the middle of the ship and on the Empress Deck. Our thinking was to have rooms on the deck above and below so we wouldn't hear deck and bar sounds all night. We also were sure to pick a room that had a little distance from elevators and laundry rooms to try to escape random noises as well. We have stayed in an aft balcony before and while we loved the view, we did notice vibrations for the first couple of nights until we got used to it. Hope this helps!

Welcome to the crazy world of cruising - you're going to love it! :)

For balconies on the conquest class (depending on how much you want to spend), I would always recommend a 9A corner aft balcony - they are awesome and will spoil you for life! It's a normal size room but has a HUGE balcony that wraps around the back and side of the ship. There are a total of 6 on the ship so it's possible that they're booked already. If you can't get one of those, try for just a "normal" aft facing balcony. There is nothing like the view of the wake of the ship! The benefit is that the balcony is deeper so you just have lots of room to roam! Some complain about lack of privacy but I don't find privacy that important. :)

I would recommend deck 7 (empress) since it's between two decks of cabins rather than public spaces - and actually, I checked and both wrap cabins are available for your sailing. :) They will cost you $400 more per person than the basic 8A but I think it's worth it. :)

OK... just my $.02 but these are the gems of the ship!

Have a great time!

The last post gave you some really good idea's....think of the ship as if it was childrens playground equipment--the sea saw. You remmeber that wood beam with a seat on either end ...when one person went up the other went down. Well a curise ship is simular.....if your room in in the middle or middle lower you will fell less ship movement in your room. However, on the ends of the ship you will feel more movement. It will feel like you are being rocked or jiggled to sleep. Also. watch out for rooms with obstructed views. The view of the ocean is blocked by a lifeboat.

Happy Honeymoon.....you will have a great trip. Just as a side note...you will recieve the Carnival Capers (news letter) in your room every night...On the left hand page is a list of the next days ship activites....Honeymooners game :), trivia...ect...this way you can plan activities for the next day.

We always book in the middle of the ship too. We always go for the 7th or 8th floor. I get very sea sick so I use trans derm scop patch. I had the Empress Deck the last 2 cruises. I always go for the balcony or jr suite. I have never been on the ship you are going on. I have just come back from the Carnival Freedom. We did it last year (Eastern) and this year (Exotic)Western. I love cruising. Carnival is my favorite. ! Working on my Platinum Status.

We also try to book midship on the empress deck. I like being higher up because I use the stairs 99% of the time instead of waiting on a elevator. We also try to find a room close the stairs for convience. Last time we could walk off the stairs or elevator and go down a room and there we were, didn't have to trek down the long narrow hallways. No noises from it at night either. We booked a similar location for our next cruise.
