Spirit scheduled for Heritage NOT King's Wharf

Hi,

I happened upon the 2009 Bermuda cruise ship schedule

http://www.rccbermuda.bm/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_994_282_1765_43/http%3B/ptpublisher.gov.bm%3B7087/publishedcontent/publish/ministry_of_tourism_and_transport/marine_and_ports/dept___marine_and_ports___new_links/articles/2009_cruiseship_schedule__updated_05_02_09__2.pdf

and saw that the Spirit will be the first to and then continue to dock at the new Heritage Wharf, scheduled to open in the spring in the Dockyard.

I can find virutally nothing on it on the web... not where it is or ANYTHING! I've looked and looked. I've googled every set of terms I could think of and... nothing except budget stuff and how Bermuda hopes that the new wharf will bring in more passengers and money.

Nothing, even in the Royal Gazette. No pics, no maps... I find it very odd. For a project of that proportional magnitude you'd think there would be lots-o-stuff.

The thing that I wonder most about, however is NCL's itinerary that still lists "King's Wharf." though they most certainly know the Spirit will not be docking there.

Does anybody know anything about it?

Thanks.

Clare

When we were in Bermuda last June, we docked at Kings Wharf (aka the Dockyard) and there were workers building an extension to handle another ship. I wonder if that's what is being referred to as Heritage Wharf?

Not to steal your thread but does anyone know if any ship will dock where the Majesty did/does ?

Majesty use to share with the Dream in St Georges but after the Majesty leaves the fleet NCL will not have any ship that will fit through the town cut.

I know Holland America in 2010 will have the Veendam going into St Georges and Hamilton,

Heritage Wharf is the NEW berth that is being built at Dockyard and will be completed by the start of the 2009 cruise season (April). It's next to King's Wharf. Both NCL Spirit and Dawn will be docked at that new berth.

Dream and Majesty did not share same berth - Dream was berthed at Pennos Wharf and Majesty at Ordnance Island.

To the OP, thanks for the link to the cruise schedule - I tried to get it last month but was unable to.

Noting that Spirit's 6am departure and Dawn's 8am arrival every Wednesday morning it is going to be a spectacular view along the North Shore channel when both ships pass each other. I'll have to go there with my camera one Wednesday morning before I go to work.

Seems like nothing is ever a definite.;)

I did a B2B on the Majesty last year and booked the cabin based on docking at Ordnance Island, had always docked at Pennos before and was looking forward to OI. Imagine my surprise when we pulled into PW. Second week was at OI.:)

Regardless of whichever dock the ncl ships land at....are the resturants and bars open all the time for the three days the ship is in port? I wasn't sure if you have to go ashore or if the shipboard activities are ongoing throughout the stay in Bermuda? Planning to sail in May with 10 family members, one who is in a wheel chair an may not want to get off the ship.

Thanks,

Brad

There will be restaurants and bars open on the ship during the day, with all of them open during the evening, the same as any other port of call. The casino may be closed, but everything else should open some time during the day. Its not like everything is open 24-7. I highly recommend reading the Freestyle Daily to keep up with opening hours.

Brad, ship's food and beverage facilities continue onboard even while docked, but the daytime schedules are more like on port days, not sea days, with fewer daytime entertainment options. The shops are closed, though, and possibly the casino since Bermuda Parliament was still debating whether or allow ship's casinos to remain open (as an attempt to boost ship visits).

Hope this helps.
