Thanks for the link. From what I have seen, I don't think too many people are off the ship at night anyway, except maybe if there is a festival going on in one of the towns.

Even the festivals don't go into the late night. The Harbor Nights festival in Hamilton last year ended around 9:30 or so. They know there is only one more ferry back to the Dockyard after that. We caught the 9:00 p.m. ferry to avoid the crowds (still crowded, but not bad).

 

I believe the shows still continue. And, I'm excited that the casino may even be open, too....

I don't care about casino gaming in Bermuda because I don't gamble. However, the fact that the latest published article says that Bermuda has nightlife and people would think twice about opening up more clubs on the island if the ships were allowed to have their entertainment onboard should be afraid to go into that business. The nightlife in Bermuda is DEAD! The two clubs I visited were jokes.

 

The Opus Lounge was the only promising bar on the island that didn't have a crazy girls gone wild atmosphere with cruise tourists and shipboard crew members. I hope this year a new disco has opened on the island but at least the NCL Spirit has a much larger disco than the Dream did so hopefully nights onboard the Spirit will be much better than the Dream was last year. :cool:

So exactly when is it postponed until? I booked my Bermuda cruise based on information that the casino's would be open after 10 pm. This stinks. And I'm not one bit happy. I would have gone elsewhere and not Bermuda had we not been led to believe that gambling would be allowed after 10 pm while in port.

 

I enjoy gambling and accumulate enough points to earn a nice discount on future cruises through Casino's At Sea. So not only am I disappointed about the closure but it's going to hurt me when it comes to booking future cruises. :mad:

When I first read about the casinos being open I couldn't help being a bit skeptical since I've seen other things, (mainly new hotel development), that were absolutely going to happen....and never did. Still not holding my breath on the old Club Med development.

 

This certainly doesn't mean that things won't change but Bermuda has an underlying conservative attitude, especially on gambling, and it seems the opposition to it is across party lines. As to when it is posponed to...I guess that depends on when their government sorts through the pro and cons then votes.

 

I LOVE Bermuda but it really irks me when they say cruise passengers only average $142 in spending, they've even dropped that amount, it used to be $186. Now that ships have not been docked in Hamilton, the merchants are very unhappy because their revenue is down....surprise, surprise????

Thank's for the link. I had heard they would be able to open in May which I was glad about but now reading this I'm like, oh well. Guess I'll be saving $$$.:p

Hey Cruisin....we're only losing 2 nights of gambling. We still have 5 nights to throw our $$$ away. (Sun, Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat)

Now I can enjoy the entertainment, bands, disco etc. :D

I'm on the Majesty, so we'll miss 3 nights as we're docked in St. George Tuesday afternoon through Friday morning. We'll survive though. LOL

We were in Bermuda almost 9 years ago for our 25th anniversary....and went to lunch in one of the pubs in Hamilton...lunch was about $50!! Bermuda is expensive...it's hard to imagine that the average cruise passenger spends only $142 when food prices are as high as they are.

 

From what I remember, nightlife is not Bermuda's strong suit...I think it is really more of a daytime, shopping, beaches, fishing, etc type place.

So it would be great if the ships could have gambling and discos open while in port.

I like to gamble too, probably not as much as you do, CG,:D but Bermuda is so worth the "casino break". I would rather stay a bit longer in Bermuda and maybe miss a day of gambling, than just be there 2 days like some of the sailing provide.

I would really like to know where they get that figure.:confused:

One year I one of the stores in Hamilton was having a certain lotion I wanted transferred from the warehouse. I got back on the ferry and to the store about 7 minutes to 5. Door was locked and clerk ignored me but I wouldn't leave so she finally let me in. She was obviously very irritated but she knew who I was and what I was there for. That sale was just under $100.

No, the nightlife is not a strong point but I'd be willing to guess that the majority of the people at the white Horse Tavern in St. George are from the cruise ships as well as the people at Flanagans when the ships were docked in Hamilton.

 

Some in Bermuda say that the nightlife suffered because of the entertainment on the ships but that was before they were permitted to have anything live while docked. Last cruise I overheard an elderly gentleman saying he can remember going to places, dancing up a storm then staggering back to the ship about 3AM.

 

Few stores if any are open after 5. The one that was open in St. George was jammed. Lots of people want to be at the beach or sightseeing during the day so might be willing to at least shop in the evening and contribute more to the economy.;)

I've got a couple of months for the Bermuda Govt to change it's mind. I really hope the Casinos are open at night. I love to play black jack.

So is this just a hold on the casino being open or did they change their mind about it altogether?,I read some of the article not all of it. we were thinking about the dawn to bermuda in oct,but we also would want the casino's open, wth happened?, i though it was a done deal?

we would get off the ship and enjoy some time on land,but bermuda is expensive from research I have done so we planned on being on the ship enjoying gambling for the most part, guess we will rethink this,glad I didnt book yet. Did they mention when or if they will reconsider?

they want the pax spending money there,thats one reason,which sucks for us that want togo to bermuda and also want the casino opened in the evening. its bull that they were only going to be opened from 10pm-6am right so wth is the big deal.bermuda being greedy now.im with CG about this i was pretty pumped now Im not so happy

i will spend money in bermuda, im dissapointed that the casino will not be open like we thought, that was my point, dont ask me a question when others have also complained about the same thing without asking them, alot of people that like to gamble are also upset, did you ask them the same question? thank you have a great day!!

I plan on spending a hell of a lot more $$ on the ship than in Bermuda.:D

(less now that the casino will be closed for a couple of nights);)

I cruise for the cruise itself. Love to spend time on the ships.

I will of course get off the ship when in port and check it out,

but main reason for us cruising is for the beautiful ships.
