Bermuda!

You don't want to spend money in Bermuda; you'd rather spend it in the casino? Did I get that right??

I think that the point here (at least my point) is that no matter if there is gambling on board or not, we will be on shore during the day(spending money in Bermuda) and back on the ship at night(not spending money in Bermuda). Of course, if there's a street festival or something, we would go to that but we're not big party animals. Not interested in going to bars/clubs etc. And, even if we were, it seems that those type of activities are limited at night on shore. If we want to dance/party/drink we're going to do it on the ship, not on land.

I'd wager that the majority of cruise ship passengers come back on board for dinner and stay there. Having gambling on the ship or not, won't effect that either way. So, Bermuda denying the casino's being open after 10 pm while the ships are in port is a moot point when it comes to money being spent on the island.

I think they are making a huge mistake as it was my opinion that the cruiselines started this crusade because of the money they were losing out by docking in Bermuda for more then just a few hours. It seems that they were led to believe that gambling after 10 pm would be approved and now that the 2009 Bermuda cruising season is approaching, they are backing out on what they implied would be allowed. I can see the cruise lines being pretty upset by this and it may very well backfire on them for 2010 sailings.

You won't find me off the boat after nightfall, that's for sure!

I like being on board the ship AND SAFE.:)

I think Cruisin is right when she said 'that the majority of cruise ship passengers come back on board for dinner and stay there.'

Me, I come back for lunch and stay put. lol

There's enough to do during the day that will poop a person out for

the nightlife.

Just read the two articles in the previous post. Bummer...I was looking forward to being able to spend some time in the Spirit's casino while docked in Bermuda. Guess thaqt means I will be saving some money ;). My DW and I will continue to do what we did the past 2 times we cruised there...go to the beach one day, do some touring and maybe have lunch in the island one of the days. Other than that we will just enjoy being on vacation.

Not having the casino open while docked for 3 days is not a show stopper for us. Having said that, I can see the cruise industry having second thoughts about increasing the amount of ships/time they will commit to the island after having been basically promised that they would be allowed to have the casinos opened late at night. For us, we won't spend any less money than we normally would on the island but we certainly won't be spending any more either. I do think this will eventually have a detrimental effect on the cruise industry tourism for Bermuda. I think they will see more ships coming in for just a part of the day than having ships spend multiple days in port.

Jst my thoughts,

Alan D.

Since you obviously are concerned about this issue and have some feelings about it, am curious as to why you have not read the article yourself, but rather ask other people what it says.

I have written before about going through the Panama Canal and how the pit boss from the casino (whose camera I was using because he could not get off duty) told me there were a line of women who had been on the slot machines for about ten hours and not once looked outside to see what was happening as the ship transited the locks and Gatun Lake.

So, obviously some people REALLY like their casino. Bottom line will likely be money, as it so often is. Many of the church goers of Bermuda feel it is morally wrong, but if the government begins to think they will lose money by adhering to their constituents' moral convictions, well, it isn't hard to guess what will be the outcome.

These forums are great... Mostly inquiring minds and knowledgeable answers, and sometimes more - levity, more in depth info, etc... all and all this is a great tool and a fun to peruse...

Personal attacks and judgments of participants are way out of line and should not be tolerated.

As my mother (a very wise woman, God rest her soul) always said: If you have nothing good to say, say nothing.

Point taken, maggiecatenjay. Very well said. Your mother was wise; so was mine. I just didn't always pay attention.:o

We did the Majesty run twice last summer and didn't miss the casino at all while in port. It opens early in the evening when you leave then is open until around 2pm on Tuesday. We get pretty regular gambling in at AC with better odds as well. I like the break from the casino and have it to look forward to when we leave Bermuda on Thursday afternoon. Getting rated on the Majesty to isn't quite the same either since it is done manually.

It would be nice if open but certainly not a deal breaker for us!

Being rated manually was what I was worried about in the first place when I booked this trip. And now that it looks like they're going to cut 3 days out of the available gambling time, I think I'm most likely out of luck in qualifying for my CAS discount on my next NCL cruise. :(

take the day before and after you dock and gamble that whole night you should be ok. just sleep on one of the last port days so you can stay awake, sounds like to get a good play in thats what I might have to do:D

how is the snorkeling in Bermuda? do they have some pretty good reefs , coral? is the water cold in October?

On Oct 11, 2007 the water temp was reported as 82 degrees, with vizability reported as 100 feet. We snorkeled over three wrecked ships in thirty feet of water.
