DemonPeeves Posted March 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2009 I suppose this goes for anyone on a cruise stopping in Nassau, Coco Cay and Key West actually... Does anyone recommend any shore excursions? I have been going through what is offered and it seems many are ones in which you can do on your own and you dont necessarily need to book through the cruise line. I've done a dolphin swim in Cozumel, snorkling in Cozumel and hung out with the sting rays in Grand Cayman. Any other recommendations from experience? Thanks! temple1 Posted March 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 26, 2009 We did one of the booze cruises in Nassau on our first cruise. Mainly - we've been many times before and have seen about every historical spot on the island. Next time we might go over to Atlantis. Haven't been there in serveral years. In Cozumel we we did the Playa Mia cooking class. We had a wonderful time. This time we are doing a walking tour of Cozumel. In Key West a couple of years ago we took the Old Town Trolley and bought tickets for Hemingway House, Truman Annex and the Maritime Museum. We got off and on the trolley and had lunch at Sloppy Joes. We ran out of time and skipped the Maritime Museum, kept our tickets and are using them in April. cb at sea Posted March 26, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2009 We've been to Nassau several times and it's not our favorite stop---so we will take a walk just off the ship for a short while, then head back to the ship to use the pool--it will be virtually vacant! We have gone to Atlantis to use their casino....didn't win much, but it was fun! Key West has a trolley that you can get on and off at will (not the ship's excursion trolley!). The bar/restaurant/shops area is easy to walk--actually, the entire island is pretty small--walking isn't out of the question! Coco Cay is a beach day, pure and simple. You can book waverunners, and things like that, but it's a "follow the leader" excursion: no going off on your own. We just do the beach thing--seems silly to spend money when the day is included in your fare!
temple1 Posted March 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 26, 2009 Oh, Majesty - Yep, beach break. If you feel adventurous a lot of folks rent the wave runners, but we just relax in the sun.
Rare BillOh Posted March 26, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 26, 2009 We enjoyed the Segway excursion in Nassau. If you've never used one before, it was great fun.

Oh that is great, hmmm we may have to change our plans. But the knee and elbow pads give me pause - flash back to ah, er, um a really really bad experience. The last time I wore them I ended up in the emergency room with my leg broken in 2 places. Up until that experience - I always thought they should include butt pads.
DemonPeeves Posted March 26, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted March 26, 2009 That does look like a lot of fun! I have always wanted to try it. Hey, what's there to lose right? I already got married... what can be worse? Hahahah! :) Thanks for sharing the picture!
SailingDeanna Posted March 26, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 26, 2009 BillOh- Can you give me details exactly where you went on the segways? It sounds like some kind of park or something. How much time were you actually on the segways? What sites did you see?
Rare BillOh Posted March 26, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 26, 2009 BillOh- Can you give me details exactly where you went on the segways? It sounds like some kind of park or something. How much time were you actually on the segways? What sites did you see? It's a short drive to the Nassau Cricket club where you spend, perhaps 30 minutes learning to operate the equipment. The training is fun, and its limited to about 5 people. From their you ride to an old fort where you are given a private tour, then you go to a garden of some type. I forget what it is called, but it was closed by hurricane damage years ago and supposedly part of the proceeds go to the restoration of the gardens. After what I think was 2-2.5 hours you are back at the cricket club. If you haven't been on a Segway before, its totally un natural for about 5 minutes and within 20 your zipping around like a pro. Try to imagine zipping up a steep hill, holding your ground, turning 180 degrees and slowly going back down. It was fun.
SailingDeanna Posted March 27, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 27, 2009 Thank you BillOh. It sounds like you got to stay on them for quite a while! I appreciate the mini review!
Grannycb Posted March 27, 2009 #11 Share Posted March 27, 2009 We did an awesome snorkel trip through the cruise line in Key West last time we were on Majesty. This time around we will be doing Blue Lagoon Beach Day in Nassau and going to the Eco-Discovery Center in Key West.
amybeth4 Posted March 27, 2009 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2009 We adored the kayak adventure on Key West. In the brochure there are two listed. The first one, at $45 is the one we did. It's the one that did NOT come with an additional boat ride. It was pretty popular as there were 20 people on the excursion. You're taken on a 15-min van ride and the kayak part is maybe two hours. You can do solo or 2-person (same price). You stop a lot and look at (and hold) various creatures like non-stinging jellyfish and starfish. you're taken right through the mangroves. Just BEAUTIFUL. Wear a bathing suit because you get wet each time you lift the paddle out of the water. Don't take ANYTHING in kayak with you cuz it'll get wet. They have a kiosk where you can leave your bag. The company that did it was Lazy Dog Kayaks. Each van comes complete with a beautiful, sweet dog (one puked all over herself on the ride home, lol). One of the dogs sits in one of the kayaks with one of the two guides. When you're done you're dropped off in the center of town with plenty of time to walk around. DemonPeeves Posted March 27, 2009 Author #13 Share Posted March 27, 2009 Thank you for the great suggestions! We are thinking about the Segway excursion and thinking about that clear bottom kayak excursion. Oh I have 44 days to decide... Ahh... not really.:D
amybeth4 Posted March 27, 2009 #14 Share Posted March 27, 2009 Just so you know, the one I did was NOT the clear bottom kayak adventure. Just a regular plastic kayak.

(if still available) So I assume you booked the Segway tour through RCL? P.S. I love your Majesty pictures! I keep going back to them. That was my first cruise and I didn't take nearly enough pictures...this time will certainly be different! :D
