We are on the Solstice and want to rent a car on April 15th to go to Loterie Farm to do the Extreme Zip Line which you cannot book on the ship (only the regulare one). Has anyone ever used Best Deal Car Rental. Their web site has a special for a Jeep Wrangler for $49 for the day which is very reasonable. Also, how far is the drive in miles and time from the Port at Phillipburg to Loterie Farm and is it easy to navigate?

We just rented a jeep from them in March. They are right in the port along with 4 or 5 other rental agencies. The jeep was in good condition and got us all the way around the island. Email them and they will send you a confirmation with the price. The island is easy to navigate, there is one main road that goes all the way around the island.

Wanting to go to Maho and none of the ship's tours go there. Did you have to pay a deposit for your car rental?

We too would like to rent a car in Phillipsburg. We will be there from 8-6 in late April. Our ship is the only one in port. With 4 or 5 agencies at the pier, I think it would be fine to make an effort to be amongst the first off the ship and walk up to rent a car on the spot. Any advice from those who have done this before? Thank you

No problem at all renting a car. Book ahead of time online and use one of the local agencies that service the port. They have booths just to the right of the pier. They don't require a deposit, but you do leave them a blank CC slip which they give back to you when you return the car undamaged. Driving on the island is really easy, tons of traffic, but everyone is amazingly courteous to each other.

I would recommend Best Deal Car rental, they were great to us.

I agree, we used BestDeal also. We made arrangements when we got off the ship. There are 5 or 6 auto rental agencies right there, all interested in your business. DO NOT just take the lowest price; have them drive up the car that they are promising you. Some of the cars are real denters, and not at all like the picture. We chose Best Deal because it was the newest and nicest car, by far, and the price was right - $50, plus taxes. It was a 6 passenger van thing, red, cute, and clean. No scratched or dents. So, know what you are buying, before you sign the contract.

Easy to get to Maho, and my teens loved it. BTW, make sure you bring cash or travelers checks for the restaurant/bar at Maho, as they do not take credit cards.

Have fun!
