Inside cabins - princess cruises

Hi all,

I am looking at booking my 6th cruise. My teenage son and I do a cruise every year or two. I've done all the S,E, and W Caribbean cruises with Carnival and Royal Caribbean. I am looking to visit new/different islands and Princess offers that (due to monetary concerns, doesn't make sense for me to spend $2000 +airfare visiting the same islands!)

 

I haven't really seen any reviews of the inside cabins on the Princess ships. I'm not willing to spend the extra money for ocean view or a balcony. I've done ocean view before but I'd rather spend the extra money on other things. I am looking at possibly the Caribbean Princess.

 

How are the inside rooms on that ship, in comparison to Royal Caribbean and Carnival?

 

On another note - I did see that obstructed ocean view rooms are offered for just a little more. What are you really getting with the obstructed ocean view rooms?

Smaller! There is no love seat or chair beside the desk chair. The closet however will store all your stuff. There is a shower curtain and no medicine cab doors only open shelves. We book inside always because we cruise 3 times a year. We have been upgraded on princess. never on rccl. Enjoy!:)

We take obstructed view cabins, much the same size as inside and the amount of obstruction through your window depends on the size of the lifeboat..sorry tender! hanging outside and position of your window, relative to the tender. At least you get some natural light and at tender ports with the tender in the water you will see out!

 

We have been in the inside cabins too, I get a little claustraphobic in them though.

We always book inside cabins. Although, we have never sailed the CB.

We also book on the same deck as the pool. We spend a lot of time at the pool during sea days. Plus their great location to the Horizon buffet, grill, MUTS and pizza!! It would be nice to have an oceanview or a balcony, but we can't justify the extra $$ since we don't spend a lot of time in our cabin anyway. You could always book the highest category inside, which is II, and hope for an upgrade. From that category, the only upgrade would be to an obstructed oceanview. Or, maybe hit it lucky and get something better!!

We've stayed in an inside cabin on the Caribbean Princess, and we liked the room. There was ample closet and drawer space. With total darkness at night, it's easy to sleep.

 

On cruises without a lot of scenery between ports (like Caribbean cruises), inside cabins suit us well. For new and exotic destinations we get a balcony.

If you decide to go with an obstructed view cabin, select carefully with an eye on the deck plans. They're very accurate in terms of showing which windows will actually have a tender hanging in front of it; if you choose a cabin in between those little boats, you have a good chance of having a nearly unobstructed view. Then mark it "no upgrade desired" so they don't switch you to one that may be more mid-ships but also may be right behind a big orange tender!

From my understanding, all Princess cabins (excepting minisuites and above, of course!) are smaller than those on her competitors. There is just a desk chair and a smallish side chair, no sofa. There is, however, an enormous closet/dressing area, which I'll take over a sofa any day! And the bathrooms are pretty tiny. Forewarned is forearmed . . .

We had an inside cabin on the CB and it wasn't much different from an oceanview room except of course for the lack of view. If you book an obstructed outside, you can book an unassigned (guarantee) cabin at the same price as a cabin all the way in the front of the ship. From there, you might get upgraded to an unobstructed cabin or at least more midship.

We have had insides on Carnival, RCCL and Princess. I would say Princess is the smallest, but for 2 people its perfect. Lots of closet space and one long cupboard with shelves and a safe. Bathroom is tight, but then its about the same on all ships. We loved our inside on the Ruby and would book Princess again in a minute!!!

It appears that there is a covering just outside the balcony door. What deck is this cabin on?

Agreed that the inside staterooms on Princess are smaller. We mainly book inside and obstructed view due to cost savings that goes towards flight and hotels. We booked a balcony on Dawn Princess for a 2 day from LA to Ensenada and that was a wonderful experience to keep the door open and breath ocean air during our sleep. After having a balcony for the first time really spoils you. On our upcoming journey, we booked a mini.

Call me crazy, but the cabin for me is just some place to rest in between enjoying the rest of the ship. I loved our inside cabin on the Emerald Princess. Yes the bathroom was small, but I was told that it was the same size as the bathrooms in a regular balcony cabin. The way the closet is set up allows for a lot of storage space, plus as you said you were traveling with your son, there is actually space in this area to change clothes in private.

Having been resident in inside cabins..a little tip..to break the complete darkness, leave the bathroom light on with the bathroom door closed, a little light will emerge from beneath the door.

 

This time for us on Crown it is an obstructed view cabin, albeit with the big orange lifeboat hanging outside. At least we have the same cabin for the B2B, no elmovo.

We book inside cabins as we are only in our room to sleep and dress for what ever. We like the extra bucks for the casino plus we are always in the ports all day and sea days were at the pool so we don't need a balcony or really a window room as we just aren't in our room much

We think the inside cabins are just fine and book them on itinerary intensive cruises when we are off the ship just about everyday. I love the balconies in the Caribbean ...more sea days and the weather is great. We just booked an inside on our New England cruise and we've sailed in the Mediterranean on the Grand princess in an inside. We also like Plaza deck..convenient to the evening action and the dining rooms and the atrium.

I would be careful about the obstructed view cabins on Emerald deck. Make sure you are not under the Explorers Lounge Stage. The base thump comes through the floor!
