We are avid cruisers and are taking our first "Med" cruise this fall on the Ruby. Looking for tips on booking excursions or "buddying up" with some others to minimize cost. I hope I did this correctly.

Welcome to Cruise Critic and thank you for your first post! However, you have posted on the Cruise Blogs & Websites Forum where members share their personal cruise-related travelogue blogs or websites with their fellow Cruise Critic members. This is not the correct forum for your post since it is off-topic here. 05.gif

When you have a chance, please read the Sticky post titled What is a ROLL CALL and how do I find mine? at http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=44773. The Sticky post will tell you about our Roll Calls and how to locate the Roll Call thread for your cruise. That's the correct place for you to get to know the other Cruise Critic members sailing with you before the cruise as artsy-girl mentions.

A portion of the post states the following:

Please note, the Cruise Critic Guidelines do not allow personal ads of any kind in posts. This would include personal ads looking to share shore excursions/tours, transportation, etc. Posts of this nature are removed from all forums... with one exception. If you are sailing on a specific ship and departure date, you may post your share request on the Roll Call thread for your cruise. You are targeting the specific group of people who would be most inclined to share since they are already sailing with you. Please remember, do not start a new Roll Call thread with your share request. Use your existing Roll Call thread to post your share request.

To help you find your Roll Call thread quicker, click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=881246 for your Ruby Princess Roll Call thread titled Sept 13 2009 Anyone.

To research for information about your ports of call click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5 for the Ports of Call Forums list. Your fellow Cruise Critic members post their reviews/recommendations there. In your case, you will want to research our Ports of Call - Europe - Mediterranean - Eastern & Western Forum at http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=234.

To research for information from your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed your line, ship or itinerary before, click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=197 for our Princess Cruises Forum. Also, you may want to click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=114 to research our Ask a Cruise Question Forum for even more helpful information.

Please feel free to use the Search this Forum feature on all Cruise Critic message board forums with your key word or words. It will help narrow down the threads you will want to read during your research. Also, you can see if your inquiry has been asked and answered before. And it probably has... many, many times! 05.gif

Click the Search this Forum feature to open the drop down. Type in your key word or words then click the little Go button. I suggest you do not try a search with too many or too common of key words at one time. This will sometimes overwhelm the search feature with too many threads to scan and it will time out. From time to time, you may receive an error message that says "Search function is down". PLEASE TRY AGAIN in a few moments. This message will often pop up during the busiest times of the day.

The following information may be helpful too:

Be sure to read our FAQ, especially the Getting Started section. You will see how a new topic should be consistent with the specific forum you choose. It also gives a brief summary of the topics covered in some of the forum sections. Other important FAQ sections are Subscriptions (Receiving e-mail notification of replies to posts and threads you specify) and User Maintenance.

Click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/index.php for the list of all Cruise Critic message board forums and be sure to read all Announcement and Sticky threads at the top of the various forums for very important information or instructions.

In the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free membership, please note the Please Browse BEFORE You Post section since many of your questions may have been asked and answered before as mentioned above.

While doing your research, be sure you are on the correct forum. After you have browsed/researched for your topic and possibly not found an answer, word your new inquiry title so the other members scrolling through the thread titles will know exactly the information you seek. This will help the members as they scroll through the thread titles so they can reply to you. It is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic or concerning one cruise line, port of call, etc. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship & sail date in your inquiry if it will help the members with their answers to you.

If you wonder what some of the icons/symbols/arrows on Cruise Critic mean, just use your mouse to hover your cursor over the item and most often a tool-tip will appear with the name or action.

I sincerely hope this information will be helpful and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

My friend and I are also traveling that time. We are looking for people to buddy up with in Kusadasi to go to Ephesus. Only about a 20 minute taxi ride.

I am new to the cruise critic site, so I may have trouble finding your reply!!!

We also would like to see if we could get people together to do the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii, we're really not big fans of bus tours.

Welcome to Cruise Critic and thank you for your posts!

You have posted on the Cruise Blogs & Websites Forum where members share their personal cruise-related travelogue blogs or websites with their fellow Cruise Critic members. This is not the correct forum for your posts since they are off-topic here and a Guidelines violation since they were not posted on your Roll Call thread. 05.gif

As I told Realtor King above, the Guidelines do not allow personal ads for sharing tours, excursions, transportation, etc. on any forum or thread except the Roll Call thread for your cruise.

By clicking your user name tltravelbugs above the words Cool Cruiser and then Find all posts by tltravelbugs, I see you have already posted on your Roll Call thread. Click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=881246 to go to your Ruby Princess Roll Call thread titled Sept 13 2009 Anyone. That is where you will find your fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with you again and you can post your share request personal ad. Your Roll Call thread has a "captive audience" since everyone is sailing together! 05.gif

I suggest you Bookmark or put the link in your Favorites so you will be able to click there to go directly to the thread in the future.

One way to find your previous posts is to click on your user name tltravelbugs above the words Cool Cruiser on one of your posts as I mentione before. A menu will appear and you click on Find all posts by tltravelbugs. A list of up to the last 250 of your posts will appear showing the names of all the forums where your posts are located. Just click on the first part of your post next to the piece of paper icon. It is underlined since it is a link and you will automatically go back to your post in the thread. The list will also show the Replies and Views counts for the thread too.

However, if you do not have one of your own posts handy to click your user name, click Members List on the bar above. It is in the same bar as User CP, FAQ, Guidelines, etc. but further over toward the right.

When the screen opens, click Search Members and a drop-down menu will appear. Type in your user name and click the Go button. Do not click Advanced Search. When typing your or any other member user name, be sure to type exactly as you see it on the boards. The search is case/spaces/symbols sensitive.

The next screen should have the following headings: User Name, Find Posts, Join Date, Posts and Avatar. Click your user name and your profile will appear. Click the Find button and the same list of up to the last 250 of your posts will appear showing the names of all the forums where your posts are located. Again, just click on the first part of your post next to the piece of paper icon. It is underlined since it is a link and you will automatically go back to your post in the thread. The list will also show the Replies and Views counts for the thread too.

However, the best way to stay informed on your posts is to make sure you have subscribed to every thread where you post. I see by one of the Mod screens you have your Automatic Thread Subscription Mode set as Do not subscribe but it can be changed if you would like.

It is easy to do and here are the steps:

Click User CP

Click Edit Options

Scroll down to the Messaging & Notification section

Look at the Default Thread Subscription Mode box

Your choices in the drop down menu are as follows:

  1. Do not subscribe
  2. No email notification
  3. Instant email notification
  4. Daily email notification
  5. Weekly email notification

Highlight (click) your choice

Scroll to the bottom of the page & click the Save Changes button

I find the instant email notification works best for me. That way I do not have to go looking for any replies since they come looking for me as soon as they are posted!

Now if you want to subscribe to a particular forum using Forum Tools, there is no instant email. The only subscription choices for a forum are as follows:

  1. No email notification
  2. Daily updates by email
  3. Weekly updates by email

Click here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showp...4&postcount=15 for a very important previous post by member Globaliser for even more information about subscriptions. Especially the part about the first User CP page where you will see the list of your subscribed threads.

Also, if there is a thread you are interested in the replies but do not necessarily want to post to the thread, you can click Thread Tools and then Subscribe to this Thread. A screen will appear where you can indicate how you want to be notified about any additional replies on that particular thread. Once you have made your choice, click the Add Subscription button. You will need to do this to any of your previous posts on threads made before you change your Automatic Thread Subscription Mode.

While you are there in Edit Options, be sure to check to see if there are other options you may want to change.

Per the Guidelines, your posts on this thread should be removed due to being a share request not posted on the Roll Call thread for your sail date. However, since you are a new member I closed this thread and will leave it on this forum so you can see this reply and not wonder why your posts were gone.

I sincerely hope this will be satisfactory, even though it is not the type of reply you were expecting.

Glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic too!
