link99 Posted April 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2009 Just back yesterday from the IOS 8 day Eastern Caribbean Cruise. Fantastic cruise and fantastic weather all 8 days. On our last sea day we received a note in our cabin that there was a medical emergency onboard and the Captian had increased the speed of the ship to arrive in Ft Lauderdale at 1:30am instead of the usual 6:30am because of the emergency. A little while later a general announcement was also made to the entire ship. It is good to know that RCCL will take every step necessary to insure the safety and welfare of the crew and passengers above all other things including ending a cruise early if need be. I heard later in the evening that the emergency involved a crew member. Our prayers go out to the person and we hope all turns out well. GREAT JOB RCCL Thanks for caring
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted April 14, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2009 That story is heartwarming. I hope everything did work out OK for the crewman eventually. Kudos to the captain for doing all he could to help out. We sailed on the Independence eight-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary in December. Hubby has decided it is his favorite ship of all! I'm more of the camp who finds special things I enjoy on every ship we sail, but Hubby just fell in love with Independence. I'm glad you both enjoyed your cruise. The Viking Posted April 14, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2009 Wonder how much additional fuel was used to keep the increased speed? Good to see that RCCL does care about people and not $$$.

Not to mention the 3 hour loss of Casino revenue on the last night, and possibly a lot of extra port charges for coming in so early in the morning Well DOne RCI
