What excurisons were worth the money?

What excurisons were not worth the money?

Which excursions offer you wish you had taken?

Which Ports did you do your own thing/planning, etc?

Which Ports did you find the best general shopping?

Thanks, Jim

Welcome to CC and as the OP mentioned the Ports of call thread here can be a wealth of information: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=234

If you are doing the Princess Grand Med you'll have a blast! We did this just this past summer.

The ports of call is the best place to ask your specific questions as well as get them answered. But you'll need to be more specific.

A few I can answer right away, if you are willing to do a little homework private tour is the way to go in any port. But some of the cities such as Barcelona, Venice among others are very doable as DIY. I found ever excursion well worth it, but I did a bunch of research before. A good place to read up on the ports and options are here: http://www.europeportreviews.com/

Good luck planning!

Well I have not done a med cruise but one of the agencies that advertises here sent me a great price for the May 22 RCI Brillance of the Seas sailing-a 12 day roundtrip Barcelona. It is $2000 for a blacony and that includes roundtrip air from New York/Kennedy airport.

If our vacation budget had not already been spent for this year I would go for it.

What was the name of the ship you traveled on?

Golden Princess

What excurisons were worth the money?

We did 4 private tours which we really enjoyed and 2 ship tours that also were pretty good.

What excurisons were not worth the money?

The tour we liked the least was the Monte Carlo port stop.

Which excursions offer you wish you had taken?

None

Which Ports did you do your own thing/planning, etc?

Monte Carlo, Livorno, Naples and Istanbul

Which Ports did you find the best general shopping?

We didn't do much shopping but then we almost never do.

This cruise was in July 2003.

Have a great next cruise.

What was the name of the ship you traveled on?

Celebrity Millenium

What excurisons were worth the money?

We took only private excursions--all were worth the money. Take private excursions. Check out the Ports of Call board here on CC for a wealth of info on private excursions and operators.

What excurisons were not worth the money?

None that we took.

Which excursions offer you wish you had taken

None

Which Ports did you do your own thing/planning, etc?

All of them. We did private excursions at Livorno (visited Volterra and our all time favorite Italian town, San Gimignano); Naples (Amalfi coast and Pompeii); Athens and Istanbul. We went on our own at Barcelona (pre-cruise); Villefranche (took public busses to Eze); Mykonos; Santorini and Venice.

Which Ports did you find the best general shopping?

We weren't in a shopping mode. All areas are pretty expensive, but you can pretty much bargain with the merchants in Turkey. If they won't bargain with you, move on.

It is a great itinerary. Santorini is a must, IMO for an E. Med cruise; Istanbul is very interesting-great city, as is Venice. Hope you have a great cruise! :)
