Food on Freedom

OK..Let's all be honest...

If you have sailed on the Carnival Freedom, how would you rate the food? Is it worth it to go to the Supper Club?

We sailed onboard Freedom last year on April 5th. We were lucky on that cruise because the newest fleet wide chef Andrew DeSosa was onboard and I got to meet him and take pictures with him. My Freedom Galley Tour thread with pictures shows that. Andrew was in the process of revamping the menu and adding his spicy indian flavor to the mix. His Spring Ranch Chicken dish was a new addition to the menu and it was very good.

I found the food onboard Freedom to be very tasty.

Not on Freedom but Valor the sister ship.

The food was very good. The super club is worth the extra charge, it's a more fine dining experience. And the chef will surprise you with little 'taster' dishes through out the night.

You'll find all night pizza which is good and an often overlooked "Fish and Chips" station upstairs on the lido deck---away from the main buffet lines.

It has fish and chips (or course) and Cured "raw" tuna on watermelon cube, which IMHO was better than the sushi in the after noons near the casino.

They also have bolubase and serviche.

If it's open for embarkation, that's where I'm getting my lunch! The rest of the cruise, I guess I'll just have to plan to get there early.:p Thanks for the warning!

If there is a long line, just yell out, DOLPHINS and a WHALE On the left side of the ship !!! That usually clears it out.

Sailed on Carnival Freedom in November '08, and again in February '09. Dining room food on both cruises was excellent, without exception.

Did supper club twice on each cruise, and loved the experience (and the supper club hostess is a real jewel).

Was on the freedom last week and loved the food! We did the supper club one night and it was fantastic. I think that it is better than RCCL and Princess alternative dining venues (I have done all of them). It is a beautiful restaurant as well. Why not try it one night! What have you got to lose???

We just got off the Freedom and the food was outstanding!!

We don't pay extra for food on cruise ships, so the supper club is of no interest to us.

My wife, for example, likes her prime rib well-done, which in most restaurants is problematic. On the Freedom, it was perfectly done and a beautiful cut of meat. We had chateubriand, filet mignon, salmon, lobster, shrimp, etc. All were well seasoned, presented, and arrived hot every time.

We have sailed other lines, and Carnival's food far surpasses them.

We were on the Freedom March 22nd and will give the food a definite "A." Didn't feel the need to go to the Sun King Restaurant. Much better food than Royal Caribbean's Mariner and Celebrity's Century. We did eat in their alternative restaurants out of need. The only food service complaint I would have for the Freedom is on port days many of their coffee stations literally ran out of coffee and no one felt the need to refill. This all resulted in a very, very long line at the one station that had coffee and you had to walk through the whole restaurant area to find it. To me though that was a minor inconvenience. We had a great trip, enjoyed the ship, the food and the service.

$60 per couple is not a lot of money when you consider the type of food/service/experience you are receiving! My dinner consisited of a crab cake app, lobster bisque, filet mignon and lobster tail, amazing dessert and little surprises from the chef. This quality of dinner I will equate to Morton's, Capital grille, etc. and would cost close to $100 per person. If you have the extra money to spare it is definitely worth it and does add to the overall experience. I have also said that it is far superior to the other line's alternative restaurants! It is a true supper club in that there is dining and dancing with live music!! Additionally, the steaks in the dining room cannot compare! My husband and tablemates ordered several nights and, while decent, the cuts were nowhere close to the sun king. I did think that the lobster tail in the dining room was excellent and no different from the supper club. The lobster bisque in the d/r was a completely different recipe and not nearly as good. The crab cake was fantastic with chunks of crab and would cost $15 if ordered in a restaurant. The desserts were unbelievable in the sun king and there was nothing in the d/r that came close. Enjoy! You will not regret.

I'd be really cautious about yelling "WHALE" at the buffet line.

Ahhh hahaha. That could cause quite an uprising.

We'll be on the Freedom in three days and cannot wait. We'll hit the fish and chips for sure, and will positively try the Mongolian Grille. Last April we went to the Sun King Restaurant - the $30 pp was well worth the wonderful service and delicious food. It was a nice cozy atmosphere and you were treated with TLC.

The food in the dining room is equally as delicious - so enjoy wherever you go to eat. Just no that you WILL NOT GO HUNGRY!
