Just my two cents to thank those of you posting for your perspectives and blow by blow descriptions of what is going on. Who knew Fred when you started that the result would be this?

A very positive thing is just how many people are giving their advice of things to do in San Fran. Kudos to you all!

This is a very caring community; I'll be standing by for all the news as it happens.

Fat chance getting a ticket for that show, this late in the game:(

Caribbean Dreams.....Why not provide something positive for the passengers? You are quite a nay sayer.....:(

The website for Beach Blaket Babylon shows the Front Balcony has 47 seats available and the Rear Balcony has 38 seats available (as of 2 minutes ago) for the 9:30 pm show Friday night........:p

Just being realistic, yes it may rain, no they may not get tickets.

I have provided other good suggestions on this thread, i spend lots of time in the city and know where to go and what to go in short notice.

As for Beach Blanket Babylon....It's friday night and the shows fill up fast.

I think the remainder of the passengers that will stay on the ship after the Long Beach Stop are not in a bad situation, they are where they want to be so nothing about my post should put them in a bad mood.

If i said don't go into Belize city because it's dirty...would you object also??

Fred,

You stated they will dock in Long Beach from 9am to noon and SFO will be 1:30...is SFO arrive at 1;30 the next day or the same day? Can a ship goes that fast if it arrive in the same day?

Thanks

Im not Fred, but the answer is that Long Beach stop is Thursday Morning, while SF is Friday Afternoon.

Day 4, AT SEA

You guys are not going to believe what happened tonight, Wendy and I took a nap and Cathy my mother in law calls me and said are you guys going to dinner tonight, its 6:35pm I told her that she was crazy that it was only 5:35pm because Wendy told me to set the clocks back again last night. Well we show up to dinner and everyone is looking at us, my friend says Did you guys go up to the Steak house??? There were no plates on the table so I was still clueless, it turns out it was 7pm and they were already on Desserts!!!

I told my waiter IMADE that we messed up the time and will be heading up to Lido to eat, our waiters insisted that we stay and eat because there were other passengers that were coming to eat at 6:30pm and that the kitchen was still open. I felt so bad for my waiters but they told me it was my vacation and that who looks at the clocks anyways.

Imade is truely one of a kind waiter. I always have the best waiters.

Well, we lost Pat and Mike, they are Cruise Critic members and our cool tablemates, Pat posted on her today, I think she is Sassyredhat. They will be debarking tomorrow morning. We really had a nice time with them and since she lives in El Cajon, only 20 minutes from us we will get to see them more and cruise with them another time.

Dinner was great, I had Beef of Tenderloin on Skewers and Flat Iron Steak cooked medium of course, very tasty and since we are fast eaters we were done on time. They had some fun music and Ken the Maitre'D sang a song for us tonight as well.

Off to the Casino for a quick deposit and back to bed.

Pat and Mike (SassyRedHat) have a safe fun trip home.

See ya all soon

Fred

Here's what they said, and I do not see where you could infer that. I read it the same way as Pete, they are thinking a Hawaii port call satisfies the PVSA, which it doesn't.

I think PVSA has been temporarily lifted or otherwise not enforced and doesn't have to be satisfied.

For example, Carnival Fantasy is currently doing New Orleans to Key West and back.

Elation and Paradise are other examples that won't be touching foreign soil.

Thanks for posting the Stats of each cabin listed at 185sq ft. Thats just the same old general stats they post for all cabins on their website. As you know, not all inside cabins are created equal due to the ships configuration. When I get back I will post the pics of cabin 8265 and this cabin 7370 side by side and you make the call, you will be able to see the major difference in room size.

.

my daughter and son-in-law had the tiniest inside cabin on the Glory I've ever seen. I don't know the number...it was deck 6 on a corner near the rear elevator. It was tiny, bed in the center of the room, barely room to walk on either side and the vanity at the foot of the bed. I looked in some other inside cabins and they appeared normal sized and looked huge compared to theirs. Our balcony cabin was normal sized.

So Fred your cabin may be abnormal...now on to keep reading this thread as to the swine flu intinerary changes....hope you're having fun.

Get out your layers, its cool here in SF. Friday is supposed to rain and be in the upper 50's. Still its one of the great harbors to sail into...last weekend it was 85, go figure!

Please be 80's 2nd week of June........:D

I believe he is hoping they break the stipulation of the PVSA requiring a foreign port so he can go to Hawaii (which we have concluded IS part of the United States :D).

It would take 5 days going and 5 days coming back to attempt Hawaii . . . and all this on a 7 day cruise ?

Hmmmmmmmmmm . . .

Laura, give me a call at 7370 tonight, anytime tonight, I will be up. I need to talk to you about something I heard.

Poor Cruise Director Brad is still getting it from all sides, some big shot Law person type wanted to talk him only and when Brad got there he told Brad that he wanted to talk to him in a private room.

People just don't get it. The CDC made the call and Carnival went with what they recommended, I am relieved that we didn't hit land due to catching something. We can always go down another time to Mexico. I understand how others feel but Its my health, Wendy health and my Mother in Law's health that I have to worry about.

No Capers yet. I ran into other folks tonight that I have been chatting with throughout the cruise that are also getting off tomorrow. I was surprise to see many are actually getting off. Maybe I will have the pool all to myself.

Going to Kick back tonight and get up for breakfast tomorrow, Not sure if the Dining room will be open for us since its Pre-Disembarkation for many.

See ya later.

Fred

Although I was only trying to clarify what the other poster was trying to say as there was some miscommunication, I don't think any of us are completely certain of what is possible.

For example, they changed the Fantasy and the Ecstasy from 4 day cruises to 7 day cruises (an increase of 75%). If you add 75% to a seven day cruise that would make a little over 12 day cruise. That would leave two days in Hawaii in this scenario. I would take that option if it were presented. The sail north up the coast will be a turbulent one as many are about to see.

Also based on many of the revisions to the itinerary, they are probably paying for fines associated with the Jones Act (Holiday, Elation, Paradise) so why not?

Fanning Island . . . about a days cruise away . . . used to be used by ships ported in Hawaii to satisfy this (misnamed) Jones Act.
It is roughly a thousand nautical miles from Hawaii to Fanning. That would require doing over 40 knots to make it in a day. When I did this trip in Jan 2008 it was two and a half day EACH way [Hawaii - night - sea day - night -sea day - night - Fanning] as even a day and a half would have required over 30 knots.

Ugh! It's always the lawyers who are the ugly ones in this situation (I'm a lawyer--I can say this!). You would think that lawyers, of all people, would have read the contract before getting on the ship--I know I read every word! People like that make me so mad.

Thanks for the update and enjoy the rest of your trip.

We like San Fran and know that rain or shine we are going to have a great time there. Thanks so much for the list of Steak houses nearby.

Fred

Fred I would enjoy cruising with you, you have a great attitude. I didn't see a list of steak houses, but the guy who suggested the Acme Chop House was on the money! Also not sure how far from the terminal it is but there is a House of Prime Rib on Van Ness ave that is awesome. Have a great time!

I understand what you're saying . . . didn't mean to sound condescending. I just don't think Carnival will do this. :)

I'm guessing they'll provide a nice Western Coast cruise, give credit to those who don't want to participate and leave it at that until they can see how extensive this swine flu is going to be.

Personally, having cruised the Mexican Riviera 10 times, I'd love this new itinerary, but that's the way it goes. :D I live in So Cal. I get plenty of sunshine and usually fly to Mexico frequently. My first cruise was from LA to Vancouver and I really enjoyed it although the ship was a disaster.:(

If the BIG SHOT law person is making something out of this. I will bet you any amount of money he probably isn't a lawyer at all. No legit lawyer will be dumb enough to fault the Cruise line on this.
