We went over to Marigot on the French side ...where Sint Maarten changes to St. Martin

to have lunch in a nice little restaurant overlooking a bit of the square near the waterfront

Marigot-890.jpg

Called..L'Oizeau Rare I believe...which translates to 'The Strange Bird'

(not altogether sure of that spelling, so don't quote me OK?)

While waiting for lunch, which was very good incidentally ;)

my wife and I ordered a lemonade each, quite unaware as it turns out

that the French idea of a Lemonade is ...aahh...somewhat 'more severe on the taste-buds'

than what we're accustomed to in Barbados.

Let's just say zero sugar content?

It came to table as a short drink in a long glass, with a jug of cold water on the side

-that's when I knew it would be different!

OK that's cool...so you add your own dilution as you see fit!

We quickly asked for sugar -and added it- which helped a bit

but we won't do that one again! :D

Otherwise it was a great little place -and you certainly shouldn't avoid it!

.

We also ate lunch at this restaurant and really enjoyed the view and the food. Great wine French wine!!

Talk about The Road Less Travelled ...those are very nice shots of a rarely-visited place.

Many thanks!

Pinel Island....just a 5 minute ferry ride from St. Maarten, and you can see Orient Beach from there! Much nicer for us, as we prefer a quieter beach. We caught a taxi at the taxi stand, and our driver came back for us at the time we requested. Ferry was $6 each (RT) I think....well worth the money!

I thought that dial up was a thing of the past. Thank you for your pics man. Keep them coming please. Nice lens.

Thanks for bringing the CC Photo Gallery to the attention of people on the text message boards.

http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/

I was always under the impression that many people who do the text message boards

are quite unaware of CC's excellent Photo Gallery

so I was just kinda bringing pics to them...sorry I hit your bandwidth nerve, man

but it often helps to illustrate a point being made

since a picture is worth a thousand words? ;)

Maybe I should stop.

All who think we should stop posting pics to threads

- please say so.

Seriously!

I thought that dial up was a thing of the past. ===> It is but..

Thank you for your pics man. Keep them coming please. ===> U're very welcome!

Nice lens. ===> Don't U know it! ;)

Here on the island, I do Computer House Calls.

I come over to your house --and a few small businesses-- sort out your Registry...stuff like that.

I have found that dial-up users can often see noticeable increase in speed from Uurghhh to Not-Bad!

by simply hauling out their old dialup modem card

and replacing it with a newer one, of more modern technology! ;)

Local cost is around Bds.$20-25 (= US$ 10-13!) and away we go!

Moral of the story:

If you're still croaking along with abyssmaly-slow dialup service where you are

it may not be your ISP, it may be your 4-yr.old-technology MODEM CARD.

They're not difficult or expensive to replace, and if I were stuck with dialup for some reason(some are!)..

I'd simply replace mine every 12-18 months routinely to take advantage of not just brand-new components

but improved technology, per installation!

Try it.

As an example of how technology changes stuff..

here's what 1 Gigabyte of storage looked like, some years/decades ago

1Gbyearsago-2.jpg

compared with what it looked like 1-2 years ago (the SD card in hand at top right)

--and it's probably way smaller today in 2009.5

Photos of rate-boards like this one

tell so much, and give much information.

Please post more shots like this, of rate-boards everywhere -on all islands.

It really helps us CC people know what to pay.

Thank you.

I'm sorry now I didn't think to do a close-up of this one

at the St.Maarten water taxi entrance.

I am currently considering the new entry level professional Nikon D5000. It has the same Image processor as the D90 but for less $$$$. There is a local outlet here in Miami selling it for $699 with the 18-55mm lens. Check out this review. Video is not important to me. I like the D90 but do not want to expend the additional $$$. Any recommendations from the OP or anyone else will be appreciated.

By the way, great Pics.

A new camera form Nikon to be released this May that looks lighter than the D90 or D60 is the D5000, it is listed at B&H Photo for arond $730.00(body only). What is great is shoots RAW+JPEG.
