Athens Airport to Cruise port Taxi Cost ???

  • 4 weeks later...

I know of a two-person tourist team who put the luggage in the taxi trunk, then when they got to the destination, the taxi driver demanded all their cash or he refused to open the trunk.

Keep your belongings in the back seat with you on your lap.

There is an airport bus (X96) that goes directly from the Athens airport to Piraeus port. Unfortunately, it stops a little distance from the cruise terminal, but a taxi from the X96 stop to the cruise terminal would not be more than 5 Euros.

There are port/tourist police at the terminal, so please do not let this post alarm you. If you do have any problem whatsover, one of you stay with the taxi and the luggage, and the other go fetch the police.

I just returned from 3 weeks in Greece.

TAXI INFO Use the metered rate. Rate should be set to 1 or 2 ONLY. Rate 3 is for special travel. THERE IS NO RATE 4!!! Also check the meter. One meter we were in went "Crazy" and was quickly increasing in price shown.

Our rate from Port to Mitropeolos Square (near Plaka) was 35 Euros for 2 with our luggage.

There is an additional charge for luggage.

Our rate from Mitropoleos Square to Airport was 40 Euros for 2 with luggage including the toll fares for the express to the airport. Travel time was only 40 minutes leaving at 9:30 AM on Wednesday.

The X-95 airport express bus to;from Airport/Syntagma Square and the X-96 bus to/from Airport and Port of Pireaus was 3.20 Euros per person. There was a rack for luggage.

The X-96 to Port of Pireaus ends near the metro station. Most cruise ships are leaving from Terimals 11 and 10.

Get maps and transportation guide from Greek Tourist desk in airport. Ask for a Piraeus map.

Food: Stick to grilled foods on economy. Avoid the casserole and stew type food that are cooked up and kept warmed until the pot is empty (1 - 4 days).

We were in Athens last week and booked a transfer from the port to the airport hotel. Online they took my credit card and charged it. I didn't realize that and paid the driver in cash--no receipt. After he drove away, we realized our mistake and had the concierge call the company. Within 15 mnutes, the driver was back with our cash. If you want an honest taxi company reserve with taxireservations.gr. Cost was 60 euros for a beautiful, clean, spacious Mercedes with a driver who spoke perfect English. Judy

The tourist desk in the Athens Airport is located on the ground level floor. Make sure you stop by to pick up maps and information on the museums. Also they can direct you to the exit door (near the end of the building) for the X-95 or X-97 bus.

The airport express buses have a place for luggage. You can purchase your ticket at the booth at the airport stop for the buses.

Taxi's in Athens area. All of the taxi's we saw were fairly new and in very good condition.

Official taxi's are Yellow with a dark blue strip under the windows.

There were lots of taxi's waiting at the airport and also at the cruise terminal.

Museum and sight book guides. Purchase a small guide book to the sight or museum you are visiting BEFORE you go to the museum or place. The museums and sights we visited did NOT have any ENGLISH language information. The National Archeological Museum has only a map on the wall with the room numbers. If you are in Athens before a cruise, pick up a guide to the islands before you sail. There is a great tourist store on MITROPOLEOS Square on the corner next to the cafe. The store had a big varitey of books on the islands, Athens, and museums.

We have just returned from Athens and used two excellent taxi firms for the two journeys. There were 7 of us and 7 suitcases. We could not find a minibus so we used two taxis. We booked via the Internet, the email communication was excellent and the taxi drivers were waiting for us as we entered the arrivals hall. We used Christos at Greece cab and John at Athens Tours guide.
