btorlv Posted May 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2009 What is the best and least expensive (public transportation) from the cruise ship to Bushart Gardens? Thanks for any help you can give us. This is a last minute port for us so don't have a lot of time to research. It depends how much time you have. The Public transit system in Victoria is good, and does go to the gardens for $2.25 (you can use US coin if you want, but you'd get no exchange), but the gardens are about 15 miles from downtown, and the total bus ride takes about an hour. In a nutshell, you take the #30 or #31 bus from the pier (exit the cruise terminal and the bus stop is on your left, don't cross the road), to downtown and transfer to the 75 or 76 to get you to the gardens. Caution, not all 75 and 76 go to the gardens, check the schedule. http://bctransit.com/regions/vic/?p=1.txt
cruiseryyc Posted May 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2009 There is also a new shuttle service called Cruise Victoria - check them out. http://www.cvscruisevictoria.com/
btorlv Posted May 4, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted May 4, 2009 Thank you very much for the info. I have another question. Does anyone know where the cruise ship is docking (Inner Harbor or James Bay)? Can you walk from James Bay to Royal Oaks? Is it better to buy tickets to Bushart Gardens ahead or can you buy them at the gate?

Can you walk from James Bay to Royal Oaks? Is it better to buy tickets to Bushart Gardens ahead or can you buy them at the gate? 1) The ship will dock at Ogden Point. (see map below) 2) Yes you could walk to Royal Oak, but it would take approx 2.5 hours. (see map below) 3) You can buy at the gate http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Dallas+Rd&daddr=Dallas+Rd+to:Royal+Oak+Dr&hl=en&geocode=FezN4gId7kml-A%3BFdrb4gId8kyl-A%3BFS4J5AIddEOl-A&mra=mr&mrcr=0&via=1&dirflg=w&sll=48.420999,-123.384318&sspn=0.015807,0.04549&ie=UTF8&ll=48.439109,-123.393459&spn=0.063205,0.181961&z=

Putterdude Posted May 4, 2009 #7 Share Posted May 4, 2009 Public transit is a good option to the gardens if you have the better part of the day but if you are a 6 pm arrival into Victoria then you best look to a ships excursion or as previously pointed out, CVS Victoria. As CVS Victoria operates the shuttle for the cruise ships into town, they require you to transfer to one of their other buses to go to the gardens but will bring you directly back from the gardens to the ship. Langley Cruisers Posted May 4, 2009 #8 Share Posted May 4, 2009 Can you walk from James Bay to Royal Oaks? Just curious as to what is in Royal Oak? Not being nosy; it's just a long way from where you will be and was wondering. And if you are doing more research online, it's spelled Butchart Gardens. :) They have a website. There is nothing at Royal Oak! It is a residential area with two smallish shopping centers. It does have a bus exchange, which is why I suspect the OP has inquired. cruiseryyc Posted May 4, 2009 #10 Share Posted May 4, 2009 Hey don't forget about the Royal Oak cemetary; maybe they want to visit that.
