Bringing a fishing pole on a cruise for port use.

Has anyone heard of people bringing fishing poles on a cruise to use in the ports? We are booked for May 1st 2010 and I wanted to try and fish from the beach on Half Moon Cay or Nassau. Will they let me bring a fishing pole and like 3 lures with me on the ship?

I have not heard of it. I am interested to hear it's possible.

I doubt they will let you fish on the beach--it can draw "predators" into shore, or hurt a fellow passenger with the hooks.

Suggest going down to the rocky point 3/4 mi. from the beach(HMC) you might do well. No license but Bahamas does have strict harvest rules. I'm sure you will catch and release.(The Caymans does not require a license either. Have caught "nice" yellowtail there.)You might also get a few extra shrimp (bait)cocktails the night before.Good luck.

On a cruise we took from LA to Sydney in 2007, someone in a balcony cabin near the stern would bring out his rod and reel almost everytime we were in port and fishing looked possible. I have no idea if Princess knew he was doing this or if he ever caught anything. The first time I saw it I couldn't believe my eyes. This cruise was in the South Pacific and things are more relaxed there. Go figure!

A guy on the Miracle 2 years ago was doing a deep sea fishing excursion and brought his own gear(he said it was the top of the line equip). They held it for him till he was in St.Thomas where he was going to use it. Also I saw some of the crew fishing between the pier and the ship at Key West. They were catching stuff.

Oh it would definately be a catch and release deal. I don't even keep the fish I catch here at home. I don't know how to prepare them anyway. Its just for the fun of it. Besides, I can get a good fish dinner onboard!!!!:cool:

Interesting! I wonder if they would let me troll from the back of the ship!!! HAHA!! :p:p

 

The fishing from the ship might be possible from a lower deck while in port if they would let me. We only book oceanview cabins(kids are still too small for a balcony right now).;)

I just talked to Carnival, they said a fishing rod can be brought aboard but needs to be packed. Use aboard is prohibited. It can however be used in port. I also booked another cruise......hehehehe. :D:cool::p

Don't forget to check your airline's baggage policy...if it's not in your suitcase, some charge if you want to check a fishing rod. As for bringing it as carry-on, there may also be restrictions.
