Golden Princess leaving Vancouver...

Glad that she left with good weather, we sure had a good blow and lots of rain over night and this morning....she has been well washed.

I know. I live in a 100 year old brick building, and I could swear that I felt the building itself (not just the windows) rattling. Glad I was not out on the water, even the sound had wind waves close to 5 feet. (BTW, did you forget to stop here on your way north with something on dry ice for me?????? :D)

I am on her, and got to be part of that sailaway in Vancouver. A beautiful ship. Other than some stuff on the 6th floor, she is done. I haven't seen any other evidence of construction. I am a bit annoyed about that fact that you cannot walk to the Princess Theatre without going through that smokey casino. Also, now that they have moved it, the smoke seems to permate the whole piazza. I am not sure what has changed, but not pleasant. I suppose there are other ways around it, but still annoying.

Other than that, I believe the food is better than on previous cruises, and the buffet selections are excellent. This is some of the best food I have ever had on a Princess Cruise.

The entertainment has been great. I love MUTS, but it is definitely better in 75 degree weather vs 40 degrees. The weather gods are cooperating, and we have had great weather, with very smooth water, and basically no rain. I am hoping for the same tomorrow in Ketchikan.

Tata for now.

Hopefully they will work out the ventilation in the Casino to prevent the smoke from permeating the Piazza as a smokey Piazza would be disappointing as I love to spend time there. Good to hear that this Drydock was the most successful thus far in terms of getting things completed and not interfering with the first cruise after it. Cheers to the crew in Victoria!

Thanks for the update.

Can you post who the Captain is?

We (mom, sister, and I for Mother's Day) were on this cruise as well, and we were also relieved to see very little construction. As you said, Deck 6 had some stuff going on, and there were construction workers roaming about (though you didn't hardly notice them). Otherwise, ship looked good overall.

Casino was a touch smoky to roam through on the way to the theater, but I'm sure that's one reason that they put it there. Many people were going to see it several times a day.

I would say that the food, IMHO, was a bit dissappointing. We have sailed on Grand, Caribbean, and Dawn, and I was underwhelmed with the buffet, and the dining room experiences were a mix. In the buffet, I just felt that the quality of the hot items was very spotty, and often downright dissapppointing (it didn't stop me from eating frequently, though!). The dining room seemed to slightly overcook everything. Not bad, but not as good as other times.

Most staff were efficient and friendly, but I would say that they could have been a little better in some areas. I found myself repeatedly saying "excuse me" when sort of running into or passing in front of an employee, and very rarely did they ever say the same, or even look at me. Sometimes I felt like I was in their way, which is a bit cold, though no big deal. In the dining rooms, I felt that overall each night got better, both in service quality and food quality. Maybe it was being out of service for 3 weeks and then jumping in full speed ahead.

The ship looked good overall, and we certainly enjoyed our time. Most of the entertainment was good to very good, and the price we paid (for a Plaza deck inside stateroom - yikes!) was very low, so I definitely cannot complain about value.

After much stress leading up to the big day, it seems that they really pulled off a smooth and enjoyable cruise for all!
