4* NJ/NY hotel deal - Hyatt Jersey City

We're seeing really good weekend winter rates for the Jersey City Hyatt, which is a 4* hotel on the Hudson River at the Exchange Place Path station. We're seeing $98 - $149 - the Senior and AAA rates are the best, but the rack rate is good as well. These are cancellable rooms on the hotel web site. Don't know how long this will last, but it's worth a look if you need weekend (or even Christmas week) rooms this winter.

This hotel is less than a 5 minute ride from the World Trade Center in downtown Manhattan, with access to many different subway lines.

Hate to be a downer, but the reason for the low rates could be planned weekend closures of the WTC PATH station in 2009 - 2011 for construction of the WTC towers. The actual schedule of closures hasn't been released, but when the announcement was first made they were talking up to 40 weekends a year. http://www.nj.com/hobokennow/index.ssf/2008/10/correction_path_station_at_wtc.html

There will still be access to NYC, but you will likely have to change trains after one stop at Pavoinia/Newport and get a train to 33rd St. (which also has stops at Christopher St., 9th, 14th, and 23rd). The trip would take at least 20 minutes.

Christmas weekend would probably be safe, as they generally try not to shut things down for construction on a holiday weekend in NYC.

Changing stations on PATH is pretty darn easy. And with what WABC (and others) are reporting, construction plans are AGAIN stalled to build anything at the WTC site. All concerned are going to have ANOTHER meeting. If they get ANYTHING built in the next 10 years, it will be simply amazing.

How close is the Hyatt to Exchange Place PATH train station? I get the impression from what I've read that it is adjacent or very close. Is that right?

And the first stop is WTC? Is there more than one train? Don't want to take the wrong one. :p

It is right there. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=hyatt+jersey+city&fb=1&split=1&gl=us&cid=0,0,10998578376518659844&ei=nCELSsrJHYqYMpyb7NEL&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=1

There are two trains at this station but they both go to WTC. Just be sure you go in the right direction. Coming back you can take either the Newark or the Hoboken train.

Thanks, Carol. I need to learn how to use GoogleMap! :)
