Distance from Ports to City Centres

Recommended Posts

Hi there we are cruising on Voyager of the Seas in July.

As this is our first cruise and we have not been to these parts of Europe before we are looking at doing the ships land excursions although we are finding this to be expensive.

What we are now proposing to do is a couple of the land excursions booked through the ship and the other days just get off the ship and have a leisurely wander around. Although I believe that sometimes the port where the ship docks can be quite a distance from the city centres. Can anyone advise how far away they are?

We have chosen excursions for Rome and Florence/Piza so that leaves Naples/Capri, Nice (Villefranche) and Provence (Marseilles).

Many thanks,

:) x

Rome is about a 90 minute drive from the Port.

For Florence and Pisa I assume you are docking in Livorno. Pisa is about 45 minute drive and Florence around 75 minutes.

In Naples, if you want to go to Carpri you would likely take a hydro foil over there. When you dock in Naples you can walk into the city from the pier.

Villefranche. You will take a tender from the ship over to the pier. If you want to get over to Nice on your own you can walk to the train station which is about a ten minute walk from the tender pier.

Remember any that you do on your own that if you are not back in time the ship will leave without you. So, give yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship.

Thank you Keith - very helpful!

For Rome and Florence/Piza we are going to book excursions once onboard.

For Naples im guessing we will probably walk into the city centre since its walking distance. I believe trying a Pizza here is a must?!

For Nice we will probably take the train to the city centre as you have suggested.

Anyone know about Provence (Marseilles), France? How far the port is from city centre?

Also where would be the best place for a girly shopping day?

TIA!

x :)
