My husband and I are both celebrating a birhtday ending in 0 next year!! and want to do a Carribean cruise. We have no idea where to start to choose an itinerary/ship/cruise line. We will have our 12 year old son with us too.

We are not beach people per se, although we do like to see them and spend some time on them. We want a mixture of shopping, culture, sites.

We are from the UK so will need to fly out to pick up the ship, easiest flights for us are Florida, so that may be a consideration. Although if the itinerary required it we would consider another Port.

We are open to either a 7 0r 10 day cruise departing around March 24th 2010.

Please, all you experts out there give me some pointers to narrow down the choice.:D and make it a birthday to remember!!!!

Thanks

During the timeframe you plan your cruise, your child will have plenty of company on a 7-10 day sailing. The months of March and into April are spring break here in the U.S. so the ships will be loaded with families and children.

Out of Florida for 7-10 days you will have a choice of the Eastern or Western Caribbean. Before choosing a cruise, first you need to look at the itinearys and decide which one might interest you more.

Good Luck on your choice!

For the time of your life... fly out to Barbados

spend a week here pre-cruise ..

then jump on the ship in the Bridgetown Port, 15 mins. from your hotel

do the cruise on something out of Barbados (Ocean Village?)

Since you are flying a long way and with the time change, a 10-day cruise would be much more relaxing than just spending 7 days. If you have two weeks, you could rent a car and explore a bit of Florida (Disney, Cape Canaveral, the Everglades, etc) and then take a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Personally, I prefer the Eastern Caribbean or Southern Caribbean itineraries rather than Western Caribbean. If you want to be with other British cruisers, I would check with a travel agent as to which ships are British favourites, i.e. Ocean Village. If you want to cruise with Americans, Canadians, and other nationalities, I would recommend the U.S. ships such as Princess, Carnival, etc. I think you should find a travel agent that specializes in cruises, tell him/her what you are interested in, and see what they offer. Then, you could read these boards about the itineraries that you find attractive. Good luck.
