Port of Miami questions

We spontaneously booked a Carnival cruise out of Miami leaving Monday 7/27. We will fly in either Saturday or Sunday. We are looking for an inexpensive place to stay where there is something nearby do do. Any tips? Also will we need to rent a car? TIA

Check out the holiday inn near the port. It's pretty inexpensive yet nice. It's also technically in downtown, though there's not a lot to do with in walking distance.

If you plan on staying more than just overnight before the cruise I would rent a car that way you can go and explore places like south beach with out paying an arm and a leg for a taxi. If just over night...no car.. just find a quick place to eat dinner and take a taxi to the port the next day. It's not far so it doesn't cost much.

There is a section on this forum called North America Homeports. Under that there is a choice for East coast Departures, and under that florida Departures. check there for all kinds of info for Miami. EM
